Hey guys hows it going, ok as I said in another post I will be moved into a new house and new area next month,so Im wondering what is the best way to get the word out about my haunt ? See where I live now, we have been doing it since 2006 so people remember and come by,but out where Im going I will know no one ! and its in the desert, but its in a neighbourhood looks like its in the city, id say maybe around 50 homes in the immediate neighbourhood and then lot more homes down the road right off the main street in that town.you can see my back yard from the main road for sure.So im wondering maybe put a big banner in the back yard up high so the cars driving by can see ? or maybe go to the community center they have and ask if i can leave some posters about it,or just decorate and see if people come by, I mean im going to decrate anyways loll but if i can get people coming by to check it out and tot's the more the better ok just wanted to get some ideas ahead of time.
Thanks so much !!!!

Banner, posters/flyers, and press release to local news paper.
Heres a link to the Davis graveyard press release to give you an idea on how to write one.

Do you have the large "street P.O Box" setup for mail? We do here in Las Vegas. When I first moved here, I wanted to post signs on the sides of it (people do for tutoring services, yard sales, etc.); and advertise my haunt. As it turned out, I didn't need to, thanks to the hundreds upon hundreds of people who "bus" themselves in on Halloween night...but it was something I really wanted to do. I'm not sure of the legalities in doing that, though.
My intention was to post teasers, such as "The Revenants' Lair...it's coming to your neighborhood!" with a few die-cut silhouettes on it; then making a new one as the date approached, with more details, hours of operation, etc. Granted, the line I just used here isn't very imaginative, but you get the idea. I don't recall what I actually wanted the sign to say, that was 6 years ago that I thought I needed it.

Take a slow drive (or walk) through your neighborhood and look for yards with tell tale signs of kids living there. Swingsets, toys or bikes in the yard, are a good indication. Don't look like your stalking or stakeing out the place but if you can catch the parents outside you can strike up a conversation and hand out your flyers. If your sure kids live at a particular house but can't catch anybody at home, you can leave a flyer in the door.
I would start this about 2 weeks before Halloween. Folks that may be interested may come by before Halloween to see your yard haunt in progress, and make a mental note to come by. Heck they may even tell their friends about it.
If your keen on the flyer thing, you can leave them where you know kids will frequent. playgrounds, Boys & Girls clubs, even the Halloween or toy isle at the local Wally World.
Our Spirit Halloween store has a big bulletin board with haunt flyers on it every year.
Hope this helps, Marc V.

Heres a simple thing I like to do. In September set out a cool prop very well lit holding a sign that says: (ITS COMING OCT 2010!) You wont believe how many people slow down to see a skeleton or reaper in September holding a sign. It adds mystery and anticipation to all those who pass by. People even stop and ask what its about and then you tell them. Its a non pushing or boasting way to advertise your house for a hot spot.
Last year I had 2 giant pumpkins holding a sign that said (The Pumpkin King Is Coming) and it turned alot of heads.

If you put up some early yard decorations, people/kids will probably assume that you will be open for TOTing on the special night. They'll see it as they drive by or walk down the street...the grim reaper with the sign is a great idea. Make it obvious. It doesn't have to be huge...just a nice propr or two to get their attention, some pumpkins maybe, a lonely tombstone in the middle of the yard, a skeleton sitting on a chair on your porch...little, visible things to let them know. A teaser, if you will.
Trust me, as a kid I instantly remembered every house we passed in the neighborhood on the way to school or on errands who had some sort of decoration going even two or three weeks before the night.

I am pretty much with what everyone else is saying.
They are all correct!
