I am a bit new to this site, but it looks like a lot of the people on here look to this "Spirit Halloween" store as the "end all be all" of Halloween Stores. I live in the New York Metropolitan Area and have only every seen 1 "Spirit" Store, and it was pretty much a carbon copy of ever other Halloween Store I have visited. Not bad, but nothing great.
I, generally, get my Halloween goodies from "Party City" or the like and I never really encounter anything that is exclusively sold in these Spirit Stores.
So whats the big deal about it? Is it like the "Wal-Mart" of Halloween stores or something?

Pretty much. Plus, they tend to dress up large sections of the store as a giant display, which is pretty damn cool. They got lots of cheap and good stuff there as well, but it isn't like if you don't shop at Spirit you're a loser or something like that.
I think lots of people are just infatuated with how it's a halloween only store.

That's it. I really hardly ever buy anything from them, because most of it is expensive. But I do like going in there to see the displays. And occasionally I'll find something worth buying. I can see how it would be awesome for someone who buys all those big life-size figures they sale.

Where I am your pretty limited in Halloween shopping. When they had the store here it was cool to go in and actually look at the stuff other than seeing it online. It was educational too because you go back in there the next week and see the motion props that were not working anymore. They also had several things that the other stores didnt offer. For me it was just another place to shop and compare.
We dont need a body bag, we need a bucket.............and a strainer.

I like the big displays they put up, and I rarely buy anything from them. This year, however, I probably will be buying a few expensive things. Their prices are terrible on pretty much everything - do quick comparisons of prices from Spirit to Big Lots, and you'll quickly see about a 50% difference. It's cool that they only sell Halloween - but they are WAY too expensive!

Its the one stop shop for anything Halloween. Great detailed props ranging from all price ranges as well as tons of costumes, though like people have said they tend to be on the pricy side. Its basically a pilgrimage that any Halloween enthusiast must make atleast once a year.

same here I just like to go in and look mostly get ideas be surrounded by Halloween stuff... but hardly ever buy anything.
For some reason i get mostly excited for Target now. They always have nice stuff, and reasonably priced.
Oh and Michaels and their 40% off coupons

I second everyone else here... The only thing I bought at Spirit the entire Halloween season last year was a pack of the labels that I put on our 2 liter bottles. I did see a candelabra there last year that I would liked to have had, but I very rarely buy anything new for Halloween (no new props, I just buy junk at thrift stores to remake). I love going for the eye candy, but like everyone else here, I just think it's too overpriced.

I think that when you see it start advertising on the internet, and then a storefront opens somewhere nearby, it is the first sign of impending Halloween. Its like seeing the first robin in the spring. Gets the old embalming fluids going.
Its so nice to be insane, no one asks you to explain...
