I was wondering if any of you have traditions when it comes to carving your pumpkins?
My family and I always lay newspaper down in the living room floor, spread out all our tools, put on my Roseanne Halloween DVD and get busy carving while we watch that.
Do ya'll (yes, I'm a southern gal) have anything specific you do when carving?

We host a pumpkin carving party each year for friends and family. We carve pumpkins, cook the seeds, and display the pumpkins for a photo op at the end of the evening. It's always a good time. Started this tradition in college nearly 15 years ago. Still going strong.

I remember the Thud/Squish of cutting into the Pumkin, the smell. My sister would bake the seeds with some salt or something. I would eat it, then right away spit it out.

We always cooked the seeds. we rinsed them and salted them and baked them. i remember having to open them with my teeth and having a little red mark on my lips and tonge from opening so many seeds to eat. lol
I have been going to a friends house for the past few years. we have a few drinks, put on some horror movies and just have a ball.

Now that foam pumpkins are available I've given up carving real pumpkins. Haven't done one in years. I've always hated the mess & trying to thin it out is a pain in the butt.
Don't miss it at all.Roger Clyne & the Peacemakers, the best damn little band you should be listening to!

Usually, we (the husband and I) and the kids sit around the dining table and carve them up a few days before Halloween. They carve, I rinse seeds and bake, then we light them for display outside. Nothing spectacular. That's probably the only reason we carve pumpkins - cuz its fun for the kids.
Although, I like the idea of having friends and family over for a pumpkin carving party (any reason to have a party right?). I might put that idea in my pocket for later. Is it Halloween yet?

Our adventure starts with a visit to the local pumpkin farm (pics in my album) and we always pick up anywhere from 5-20 pumpkins, Been doing this since I was a kid and have never quit. I design the faces with the input from the family, they gut 'em and we all carve them. Wife and I rinse the seeds and they are constantly baking with a myrid of spices (garlic and sea salt is one of my favorites followed closely by a red pepper and cinnimon).
We listen to great halloween music and watch Home Improvement Halloween episodes (some Roseanne as well).~ "I think it's so cool when parts go flying everywhere!" ~ The Evil Dead

We usually have a pumkin carving contest/Halloween party. It kinda seened like the guests were not that interested in carving anymore, so last year I didn't do it, and everyone missed it. Go figure!

Now that I have children I get to make the traditions which is pretty cool. We usually get about 5 pumpkins to carve and cook the seeds which is fun for my son. We decorate the house which usually takes a little longer with his "Help".
