There's no earthly way of knowing Which direction we are going. There's no knowing where we're rowing
Or which way the river's flowing. Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a blowing?

There used to be one that was set up at a place called Samuel Farm near Mesquite. They actually had a haunted barn that was fabulous. Characters were a everything from Texas chainsaw Massacre to Dr. Mereaux's animen. Very creepy. It went up 3 levels and you left it by sliding down the hay shute as aguy comes at you with a bloody butcher knife. Really super.
They also had a haunted hayride that went about 2 miles through the woods with little scenarios set up along the way and live actors everywhere that would come at you unexpectedly. Very cool.
Also, there was a group of little shops and things where you could by snacks, crafts and stuff like that, one had a fortune teller in it, but the coolest thing was in the center of this cluster of shops was a HUGE iron pot over an open fire where they made huge batches of kettle corn. The smell would hit you as soon as you got out of the car, and believe me, it was gone as soon as each batch was made.
Sadly, the place stopped doing the Halloween thing several years ago, and I just recently saw that it was about to be auctioned off. I really hope that whoever buys it re-opens the Haunted experience and even expands on the theme. Maybe turn the little cluster of shops into a replica of the village in the movie of the same name. It was a great place to take the family and dates.

When I was a kid a local radio/tv station had a permenant 2 story haunt structure. Inside they had a Dracula's castle complete with 2 story stone stair case that came down into a victorian furnished HUGE room... a water filled swamp complete with full body The Creature costume... from the second floor you could look down into an indoor forest with a Pepper's Ghost woman walking through the trees... a complete crypt with broken caskets and clothed skeletons falling out... an old style stone cell with a Wolfman... I mean all this stuff was Hollywood professionaly built.
I've NEVER seen a video (tons of 'em) that even came close to it's quality. I don't know what ever happended to that place... it's long gone now.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

I didnt pay to get in but there was a real good one one of the Air Force base my dad was stationed at when I was about 10. It was set up in the base gym and had lots of rooms for different sceans. One was a labratory with victom on operating table ect. The whole thing was played more for laughs but it was still a great set up. They even had dudes from the hospital bring a porable x-ray machine over so you could get your candy scanned. It was awesome...I wonder if it was government funded!?!?
Anyway, the scariest part was when you went from room to room people dressed as zombies or other ghouls would try to "get you". One girl was dressed up as a ghost with a long cheesecloth shroud and went shrieking down a hallway. She was going full force, tripped on her shroud hit the floor hard and slid on the linolium for about 10 feet. She got up ok and started laughing. I laughed my ass off. That has been a memory of mine for the past 31 years, I'm so happy theres a place for me to share it.

On our honeymoon in Estes Park, CO we stumbled across a haunted woods up in the mountains. Horse drawn carriages out into the trees, they did an awesome job. Headless horseman charging out of the trees on a black horse, screams off in the distance. The atmosphere was great. That was our very best find.
We just happend to see a flyer in a store when we were picking up some supplies for our stay.

The local Jaycees would always put a good one together. Some years they would use or borrow a house set to be torn down,so it was always in a different location, one year it was 5 houses away from my parents house. It was great being able to hear the screams and chainsaws right in the neighborhood..Of coarse if they tried that now I'm sure people would complain to much. Sadly they stopped doing one a few years back. The rooms were always a variety of things, Some really good, some lame. Lots of dark hallways.
A local high school does one now and they do a good job for what it is. A lot of grade school actors but it is a fun time. Sorry if I got off track. Dan

My favorite one is Reindeer Manor in Red Oak. They put on a live action haunt, so you go into these rooms and they act a skit out..for example The second room had these sisters who tell you the story of how they murdered thier husbands to retain eternal youth. As they are telling you this tale, they are weaving in and out of our group, smelling you, raising your arms, looking you over. (Basically sizing you up for death) then at the end of the story they scream and the lights go out then these "minons" come out and you are chased into another room but the minons and the ladies are pulling you back in.
its a place that is allowed to touch, so I feel it puts you more in the moment. Since its kind of like a play its about 45 mins to get through the manor.
I do like Screams which is in Waxahaicie, its not scary or anything its just fun to go to.
I have heard of an awesome one in Austin where they have people on wires coming at you from all different directions. "House of Torrement"

My favorite is The Headless Horseman in Ulster County NY. The attractions are amazing. But then there is a whole haunted fairway with a few stores (selling amazing Halloween decor) a few cafes where you can get something hot to drink or snacks. It was just such a cool experience.

honestly....I've only been to one and I was too little to remember. (I'm 28 now)
"We accommodate the living, but who shall accommodate the dead?"
"We say haunted, but we mean the house has gone insane."
