ok , this year im going to try to get more toters at the new house. i put on a big haunt and im use to having 1500 kids on HW night(4 real!). I moved to a new house last year and have had very few kids show.im off of a main road, have a big graveyard and a 8' skeleton/munk in white robes on top of the roof with a strobe light on him, so getting noticed isnt a problem. The rest of the haunt is in a 2.5 car garage and 3- 12 x 12 enclosed gazeboes with black visqueen walls. I can have it all set up in 3-4 days if i hit it hard with 3 friends..but when should i set up?
whats your name?I couldnt hear it very well last night when i was hiding under your bed!
Mommy! Mommy! I dont want to see Grandma!.. and she would scream back" shut up and keep digging!"

My setup is nowhere near as large or complex (see my Halloween 2008 album) I usually try to start sometime in the latter half of Sept. Allowing for day to day interruptions, and try my best to have it all completed by Oct 1st. That way I have all month to enjoy the fruits of my labors. I'd be too depressed to put it all up in a day or two beforehand, then have to turn around and take it all back down.

I'm at that awkward stage in life... Somewhere between 'Annoying Fanboy' ...and 'Dirty Old Man'...

I'm with Thom - I force myself to wait until after my daughter's B-day (Sept 28) to start setting up. Then I go crazy. So I have most of October to enjoy. I hope I'm not jinxing myself, but there's never been an issue with neighborhood kids messing with stuff.

There's no one else on our street that puts any effort into decorating, but there is a guy on the next street over who goes all out - in fact he drives a hearse (with purple flames & the license plate says "6 FT DEEP") and there is still one zombie at the corner of his garage wearing a Santa hat right now.

I wish I could set my stuff up before Halloween day but I'm afraid it will get stolen.

I start setting up on Oct 1st with the indoor decor and a week in advanced outdoors if I can depending on our local weather forecast. If the weather is going to be an issue I wait until 3 days prior at latest rain or shine. If you have a good & safe area, its best to start a week in advanced beginning with larger props and decor including electrical/sound wiring.
A Halloween prop is a terrible thing to waste..

I start towards the end of the first week of October... while people in town continue every year to say WHY do you start so early... then every halloween night they understand, only to forget the next year HAH... My daughters bday is Oct 13, so usually the decorations go along with a fall looking theme LOL

I'm a holiday snob so I get pissed when I see Christmas decorations going up in stores in September. I always think the same thing, "Did I sleep through Halloween and Thanksgiving?" I work on Halloween stuff throughout the year so when I start to set things up I know Ive worked out all the bugs and things should go smooth when I start on Oct. 1.

I get my stuff out and check to make sure everything works and so I can get fresh batteries if needed the last week of September. I start to decorate on Sept. 30 every year. I then have the month of Oct. to enjoy my hard work.

I'm the same. I like to put up a little at a time building the neighbor's anticipation and keeping them interested "oh that's new... that wasn't there yesterday".
