Thread: The list of what scares people

hey guys, im starting a list on what i notice people to be scared of in a haunted attraction. Through my years of experiencing professional haunted attractions i have always noticed what seems to make people scared and what doesnt. So any help for this list would be greatly appresciated.

What i noticed people to be scared of
1) air cannons
2) loud bangs
3)tight spaces
4) pop-ups
5)dimly lighted areas

keep adding on

clowns
insects
blackness
spooky children voices (exorcist moan)
chiansaws (over done but still works)

very good, lets keep this going. And feel free to post what doesnt scare people.
Scare
actors
gory scenes

doesnt scare
fake looking props
etc

drop panels
things chasing you
things dropping from the cieling

doesnt scare:

people that say boo...
masks without the costume
plastic glow in the dark skeletons

In my opinion, a lot has to deal with the person being scared. I've seen people walk thru a haunt and not flinch, others scream at everything

well done make up and props
Not Scary:
white goop on on the face and black circles on the eyes
Plastic toy looking props
Scary:
When the monsters know your name
Not scary:
Lame actors
Scary:
Total confusion, which way is up, what's going to happen next
Not scary:
Saw it coming, seen it before

Even bad actors and bad makeup are scary when they are unpredictable.

true that....

really creepy actors dressed as clowns freak me out. My friend's grandfather had these clown wall hanging things and they all had creepy pedophile looks on their faces.... One had holes in his eyes, and there was a light behind it, and in the middle of the night it REALLY freaks you out. I never stayed there ever again, and to this day HATE clowns....

Spiders - I just don't want to be near them...

Everything else is pretty much comedy to me!
Not Scary: Fake and Plastic Props that havent been touched up to look more realistic.

OK, I'll give you that one. Unpredictable is scary.
