Until I started coming onto this forum I had never heard of schools (namely) and towns changing their "Halloween" Festivals to "Fall" Festivals. This idea is CRAZY to me.

I have a nephew in Catholic School and even they have a "Halloween" Day, they don't call it "Fall" or "Autumn" or whatever else. The kids dress up in costumes and have a little parade-- its cute. So it looks to me like Religion doesn't seem to have a problem with Halloween.

Looking at it, I have reason to believe a lot of school have the name change in order to lump the season with a fun activity. They take the chance to teach these kids about Fall and the changing of the Seasons.

But one way or another, I don't know what is wrong with the people that make the rules where you guys live-- if they tried something like that around here parents would be up in arms.

You guys should start going to school board meetings and seeing what the reason is behind the change. That is what I would do. And if I wasn't satisfied with the answer I would run for the School Board and once I was on the Committee I would get to the bottom of things.

Fall Festival.. ridiculous .. they are kids.

yeah that and the even worse..."Trunk-o-Treat".

Trunk o' Treating is the church's answer to Trick or Treat. It is supposedly a "safer" alternative to going door to door.

    I kid not.

Nowadays it's hard to find Halloween Festivals. Where I live your lucky to even find Harvest Festivals. WTH?

Well, you've got to pick your battles, and I don't think there's much to gain by trying to impose our views in favor of Halloween on a school board. Everyone seems so uptight these days, you're lucky if they have any kind of festival at all!

That's why I focus on my own home and my own decorating and celebrating, where I'm free to do what I want (which isn't even that outrageous - just fun and slightly spooky.)

At least I live out in the boonies, where so far no community rules have been passed about times or days that tots are allowed. I can't believe when I read about that kind of community control!

My only beef, (and it's just my theory) is that the people who have a problem with Halloween and it's supposed bad influence, are the same people who get all huffy about the so-called "War on Christmas." They don't like the religion taken out of THAT holiday, no sir!

They don't think its appropriate to just say Happy Holidays or call it a Winter Festival - it's Christmas, by golly. And since it's something they approve of, we should all respect their beliefs, etc.etc. Kinda seems to me they want it both ways!

Eyegor, how could you doubt the safety of an idea that ingenious? I can't believe that people can trust someone doing that just because it is church-sanctioned, yet refuse to let their children take candy from neighbors that they see year-round...

I agree about people being hypocrites, too, Decorinator. Heaven forbid they should learn to *gasp* accept that others have differing views. Guess I shouldn't have gargoyles perched atop the manger and 3 skeletal wisemen when I get my own place, huh?

The reason for our local schools changing from the Halloween to the "Fall" or "Autumn" festivals was because of the growing number of people who felt it was a representation of evil. You get one small group of parents waging that kind of war, you get many others to jump on the bandwagon. One school district decided to change it, and the other surrounding districts followed. So, no more Halloween parades for the kids at school. No more "Halloween" decorations in the school. No more Halloween parties.

I find this very funny though. The cities have their Halloween parades. They still have trick or treat. But the school districts dont allow these activities in their buildings.

I've always seen Halloween as a celebration of the season and of the darker side of creativity. We need to embrace the things that scare us from time to time in order to better understand ourselves.

Or maybe it's because some people just need to relax. I'm not out sacrificing chickens on Halloween night (as a former religious friend once jokingly accused me of doing), and I'm sure nobody here does that either.

The only chicken I sacrifice is Chik-Fil-A.

I have been known to sacrifice a goodly number of those chik-fil-a nuggets to the belly gods....some could consider it a religious experience.

"Fall" festivals, "Trunk or Treat", all this stuff is getting out of hand. I'm certain that today's kids would much prefer the Old School Hallowe'en to any of that xenophobic crap.

One of the churches did a "Trunk or Treat" last year. A lot of the stuff they gave the kids was left laying unopened/untouched on the ground the next day. More kids and parents chose us over them. We had a pretty steady stream the whole 2 hours of TOT. The schools around here will not even alow you or the kids to brin in candy. What food is brought in for the Halloween party or what ever they call it now a days can't have sugar as the first igrendent.

Someone is always trying to ruin someone else's fun. Halloween. . . Christmas and many other things. A lot of it is people with different religions seeing others having fun they "can't" have and a lot is just a bunch of #### party poopers. The best thing to do is fight it as much you can and if you lose. . . do it on your own.

Now I take my son to most of the trunk or treat things in my area. In a lot of ways it is much safer than trick or treating all over town. Plus the ones here are like a small fest or party. ALWAYS check your childs treats though. You can't be too careful!

Fall/Autumn is our season and they will never be able to take that away from us
