I was at Caufields here today in Louisville and looked at what they had in stock. Lets just say that the bag of bones didn't even deserve a picture. it was probably 50% smaller than the small blucky here. but does anyone notice these got smaller?
both are priced at $29.99, what's going on?

Manufacturers are doing this to keep their price the same for retail distributors. If they (manufacturers) go up in price on their blow mold skelly, they won't sell as many to the retail stores. In order to keep the cost the same for the buyers; they cheapen everything: the amount of plastic per mold, the size of the mold, etc.
They are smaller because it's cheaper to make! If Caufield's is selling them for 30 bucks a bluck, then...that's absurd! I've never seen a blucky go higher than $25 dollars, especially one that's so small. It may be five feet tall but I bet the head is only 4.5 inches tall (That's not proportionate in any stretch of the imagination!) it look's really odd.
Last year my BigLots had a version similar to this. It too looked freakishly small! I think its just the manufacturers trying to pull a bait and switch over retail stores. But at the same time, retailers shouldn't be charging 30 bucks for a shrunken, thin-walled, blow-molded skeleton either.
Luckily there are still companies that sell bluckies at a reasonable price and that resemble something a little more anatomically correct. The trick is finding them!
It seems like retailers are pricing themselves out of a sell! I certainly wouldn't pay 30 bucks for one; and still cringe at $25. I have a sneaky-suspicion that
these new shrunken bluckies will be the norm! I REALLY hope not!

What I hate is that the package says "5 ft." but they fail to mention that the 5 feet includes the six inch string attached to the head!

yeah that too!
or worse when they say its "lifesize" and it measures only 4.5 feet tall!
I managed to find a wholesaler who has some for sale that are a little more anatomically correct for $9; if I order at least 30 of them.
If anyone is looking to purchase some, then you might want to have a looksie at the Bulk Buy thread.

i saw the group buy as well. As long as the group buy is for the blucks comparable to the ones on the right hand side, I'm in! I'll post in that forum, i will probably buy 5 at this price point. I will put in my order before August 4th, depending on when Big Lots has theirs out and if they are these little shrimpy blucks.
Also, Caufields is a novelty shop here in Louisville. This Halloween stuff is for sale year round and they do a HUGE mark-up. I just really got into prop building about 4 months ago and today was my first time really looking for props while i was there.

They come assorted from the manufacturer and will be either white or glow in the dark. I have no choice in which one I'll get. They will look like the ones on the right side that is more anatomically correct and actually 5' tall. The only difference will be they won't have an aged paint job.

Well, that sucks. But I'm laughing a bit because my grown daughter is 4' 10".

On the subject of manufacturers keeping the cost down, how many of you have noticed that bluckies come with two right legs, two right feet and two right arms ? Only the hands are made reversible. I guess its cheaper to use one mold for the arms legs and feet than be anything close to being anatomically correct (which they are far from!)
