So I haven't been on the threads for a couple of months. Between being deathly sick - the hospital bills don't lie, which pretty much killed any halloween budget I had this year, and being forced to vacate my apartment and move across town, I've been pretty busy...
BUT All things have a happy haunted ending right? So when I moved all I got from splitting with my roommate of 2 years was the Dining Room Set, and the TV (He kept the couches, PS3, and washer and dryer). So the first thing I did after we moved me in was to go to Goodwill that's like 4-5 miles from my new place. OMG the BEST Goodwill EVER I think. I found a 1st Edition of a Book I was looking for (non-halloween), and I found the COOLEST Couches EVER for only $149.99 (no tax!). They are Black with a very very dark brown undertone, and totally look awesome in my living room and bedroom (They are big, so I put the loveseat in my bedroom). Imagine my suprise when there were no tears, rips, stains, missing pillows/cushions, or anything for such a small price! They are practically brand spankin new! And SOOOOO comfortable. In 2 weeks I've already fallen asleep on them several times!
So while I was sitting there on my awesome new black couch in my living room I decided on the theme for my living room! (Dining room is dark cherry dining room set and black and white ansel adams prints, and kitchen is Blue and white with Black and white photos around San Diego - from the early 1900's)
HAUNTED MANSION. What better way to decorate my new home than to do it in the 2 things I love Most in life... Disney and Haunting! I then drove this weekend to Disneyland (I live in Lakeside, CA now- it's 130 miles to Dland), and ordered the Big Print that's going behind the couch... a 32x40 Canvas Print of the Stretching Room Portraits! I will of course post pictures when it arrives. I also set to work on creating a 13 hour clock - which turned out pretty cool - see pics below -, and I got 2 prints from the World of Disney that are Haunted Mansion oriented. Finally my plans needed to include somewhere to put my 500 or so DVD's, so I am having a Custom built set of DVD Cabinets that look like the Entrance Pillars to the Haunted Mansion, which will sit on either side of the TV. I will then have a shelf over the TV showcasing some of my cool pillar candles I made earlier this year, some of the Funkin Carved Pumpkins, and some need little halloween haunted knick Knacks...
This is what I have planned so far.
my question to this uber talented group on here is this:
I am really torn between Wall Sconces for lighting, or doing a mini Chandelier... Any ideas? My budget is pretty small at this point, so nothing elaborate....

Sorry to to hear about you being ill and having to move. On the flipside, I think you have the PERFECT setting for a Haunted Mansion theme!
I'm not that crafty so I can't help with the chandelier vs wall sconces. I would think sconces are cheaper to make though? Like the PVC kind that a lot on the group talk about. Is it Halloween yet?

Yeah, nearly 2 months being sick, with constant doctor's visits, and then losing my voice for 3 weeks as a result. was the worst POST Birthday ever.. lol. (I got sick 2 weeks after my birthday, and was sick from May 6-July 2nd). I'll have to pull up the sconces and see about building some.

Can't wait to see the rest of the room. Your couches seem real nice too.
As far as the lighting I would use sconeses.halloween is a super cool holiday.

I am glad you are feeling better and I am even more happy that you score major at Goodwill. Now... Go back to goodwill and hunt for some more items for your Haunted manison. I, too aint no crafty person, so better to look at Goodwill or such store for your chandelier vs wall sconces. My sister and I shop at Goodwill for our Halloween goody to put together something every year without a fail.
