I just called a local furniture business and explained that we were doing a haunt for charity this Halloween and was wondering if they had any packing foam or plastic they could donate as we are starting prop building. I got furious at they woman I spoke to who was questioning me why would we be doing something so early, what exactly did we need the plastic for yada yada, I finally just said, "Mam are you able to donate or not because if not I need to check with other funiture stores," She told me to call back in a week, she wasn't comfortable with me needing the plastic. WTH? Does she think I need to literally wrap a body or something? She made me feel funny for asking! It amazes me people love to go through haunts, etc. but they have no clue the time, energy, money, etc. that goes into making the haunts LONG before October! Anyone have similar experience?

YES!!!! I like to build with the Styrofoam from Homedepot pink kind. I usually start my projects in the spring or summer b/c as you know the time it takes to plan what you want to make and then make it. My family is like well its not even October yet? The same with my hubby! They just don't get it!! But yes it does take time to make your own props. Good luck!!

Dont feel funny. That lady should feel like an idiot. When I first called TS to ask about foam they wanted to know what i was going to use it for, But didnt question my motives. Just keep trying. That lady has "plastic" issues or something. GL

This is a quote from her, "I am not very comfortable giving you the plastic, I guess the foam would be fine. Can you call back in a week?" I won't call back there. Later today I am going to try a different store. I get it that people don't understand what we do, but I explained in detail at the beginning of the conversation that I was doing haunted house with proceeds going to Relay for Life in October. With that said I don't understand what part of me needing plastic and foam she didn't get. Oh well, rant is over, this is the only place I am discussing this, my family would just give me the look, you know the one, "OMG she's talking about Halloween again..." It's great to have somewhere to go and get feedback from people who understand. Thanks Guys

Only terrorists need large quantities of plastic and/or packing foam, not good, law-abiding citizens. If you or anyone you know notices any suspicious plastic-related activities, please notify the Department of Homeland Security immediately.
Seriously, though, I always get the "but Halloween isn't until October!" comments when I start preparing early (Halloween Season starts July 25th for me).
