It is isn't it. A little while ago there was a message that something was changing or something like that, anyway I couldn't log on. Maybe the new mascot is going to be added or something.

I noticed that too! Last night the forum was down, I guess they were doing Matinence or something! I also noticed the Chat feature is removed, but Larry said it will be back! He also said that he was "tightening" up security in the server, and a few things, I guess, where disabled.

I'm sure there's a post about it here somewhere... I noticed last night that I was prompted to "install" something, and it installed anyway. My virus scanner said the site installed 2 trojans.

I'm guessing that's what he was working to fix.

Discussion was in Off Topic. http://www.halloweenforum.com/off-to...omputer-2.html

Then after I read that forums are being targeted right now, I had to do what I could just in case.

Just in case, I took the site down for a few hours, disabled many of the add-ons to add some extra stuff (some was behind the scenes stuff), then to be extra extra safe, I re-uploaded every file possible. For any techy person, I added additional rules to mod_security. Re-built the database etc. Updated a third-party add-on that had a recent update.

There were some messages in this thread also that would probably have triggered some checkers as they had the name and link to an infected site with trojan. I edited these posts (make sure that you do not try to go to them).

I was and am under the impression that security is good. I made it better..just in case.

If there is any belief that the site does have an issue (as of this post), then please shoot me a private message with as much detail as possible. Or an email to support @ halloweenforum . com (all together of course) and I will address.

I really think that we are good (especially after what I did tonight/last night).

A few tips for novices that may come across this info: For this site and every site: If you ever go to any site and it asks you to install something, do not do it. If it says that you need flash, go to the flash site and install it from there. If it says that you need java, go to the java site, if it says you need a video plugin, you probably don't. Always make sure that you have an updated version of a virus/trojan detector installed. There are tons of email viruses/trojans going around right now. Never open an attachment that you are not completely expecting from someone. There is no computer/site/person that is 100% safe, even your bank.(some major name brand sites have been hacked before) So always be careful. We will sure consider making sure that we are good here.

There are tons of sites out there that are bad. Tons of people and scripts that do nothing but try to hack a site.

(sorry if I rambled here... I was up over 24 hours to make efforts to confirm that we should be safe)

    Thanks much!

Yikes! I'll make sure to forward this info on to Larry. Thanks so much for letting HF know.

Here's a snippet Larry put in the other thread which applies here:

I did a major upgrade where EVERYTHING was done from scratch amd many customized items had to be manually re-implemented. There are a few things that will show back up within the next day or two including the clickable logo, countdown etc. Chat will return too (probably not within the next few days).

More great stuff to come too! :-)
    Thanks.
