One of my passions is collecting comedy, spoken word and novelty recordings. From Spike Jones and Allen Sherman to Boris Karloff and Arch Oboler, if it’s bizarre, funny or straight up creepy, I like it!
I’ll get to share some of this insanity when I’m a guest on Crazy College this Sunday, June 27. The show, hosted by George Stewart, is similar to the old Dr. Demento show, except George delves deeper into old, obscure recordings. He also does nice in-depth interviews with some of the personalities who created these gems.
The show is on WVUD, FM 91.3 out of the University of Delaware in Newark. It will be on from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening EDT. Don’t live within the broadcast range? Not to worry! WVUD streams live. Just go to:
www.wvud.org/listen_online.htm
Or if that’s not convenient, Crazy College plays every afternoon on Shokus Internet Radio. You can get to it via iTunes, Live 365, etc. The shows play 9 to 13 weeks after they are first aired, so it won't be heard on Shokus until probably mid September.
We've gone over the playlist, and the first half of the show wil have a variety of comedy music. The second half of the show, however, is devoted to comedy records in a Halloween, horror and Sci-fi vein. You'll hear classics like Spike Jone's "Teen-Age Brain Surgeon" (Sung by Thurl Ravenscroft) and "The Blob" (which was co-written by Burt Bacharach and Mac David), but there wil also be obscure titles like "Igor's Cellar" by The Detergents.
Oh, and it broadcasts LIVE, because, as he says, "It's more interesting that way!" Gulp!
Hope you can tune in!

That sounds like awhole lotta FUN!
As a 61 yr. old, I listened to radio as a small kid. Remembering Inner Sanctum's creaking opening door! Wow! Talk about stimulating one's imagination!
I will always remember the "Frankenstein" radio production:"Well, Igor, we have failed, no life in the corpse, let's go into the next room and discuss this."
Later.."OH no! He's gone! He WAS alive! We have to find him, outside! The door is open,"
Huff-Puff, running sound effects..as a dog barks in the distance,"Where could he be? Will we ever find him?"
Then...the streaming bark of the dog in the distance quits suddenly with a loud "Yelp!"
"I think he might be over there!"
This struck as So Funny, even at such a young age!(But it wasn't supposed to be "Funny", Jimmie!)
But it WAS!"My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

Thanks FG!
Gym, I've become acquainted with them through LPs and CD collections. There were some pretty creepy episodes, but occasionally there was the clunker! BTW, have you ever heard Bill Cosby's skit "Chicken Heart"?

So, like WOW! What a great hour I spent enjoying your music choices. Never paid attention to this genre but did I have a good time! You should host your own podcast in the future. Great voice and excellent and funny songs. You were terrific and I'd be your first and loyal listener.

Thanks Terra and Dave! I had alot of fun, and it was cool learning more about some of these songs from George.
I don't see a podcast in my future, but he did invite me back to do some more selections - looknmg forward to a Halloween-themed show.
And thanks for listening!
