In the UK, a few kids do the trick or treat thing.....thats it.

I'm really up for 'celebrating' it and getting really into it but don't quite know how to get others into it.

I held a Halloween part at hoome last year with was fun, everyone seemed to ahve a good time. This year, along with a colleague, I'm planning on hiring an outside venue and holding a bigger more elaborate party. Fully planning on decorating the venue. But how do I promote it to friends and family, as they're not likely to be as enthusiastic as I am and probably don't see what the fuss is about.

Im sure everyone who comes will have a good time, but for success in future years has anyone got any suggestions.

I think the reason everyone on this forum is into Halloween is because we've loved it since childhood (or birth). I'm not sure how it would be if we were all introduced to it later in life. What made you interested in Halloween?

    Have prizes for costume contests.

Post warning signs in the area that the haunted house is way too scary and avoid it like the plague.

Use searchlights/spotlights aimed in the sky to attrack attention. Don't use lasers, it's probably illegal.

Utilize the people who attended last year and who had a good time. Start promoting the party now, and get the hype going. If they truly enjoyed themselves then have them tell their friends. These things are contagious and word of mouth is a powerful advertising tool. Get your invitations out fairly early so people can plan the date and make an effort to attend. Put on as good an affair as you can and every year it will grow. I'd suggest engaging some of last year's attendees to help woth some scares and the actual decorating. They will possibly be happy for the task and will talk it up to others. Good luck!

It looks like you had a fun party. If the guest have fun word of mouth spreads. My first party I had 34 guest last years around 70.So word of mouth does alot. Now people come up and tell me they want to come to my party.
As far as getting neighbors involved in decorating mine just won't.But they love to look at mine.

First let me say that the thought of having a Halloween party in an almost Halloween'less community would be a blast to me because you are bringing something to people who might not have experianced something like this before.

As far as getting people to attend, word of mouth would be the way to go with me. I'd tell all the guests from last year and add that they could bring guests/Dates/Freinds and Family.

Everyone enjoys a good party no matter the occasion.

How does one "spread the Gospel of Hallowe'en", eh? I would only target an audience of persons who are young at heart, unafraid to let their hair down. In the UK, that may be a tall order...

I would offer something out of the ordinary to people to bring home the idea that they are privileged to be attending such a happening party. This year, whoever wins the costume contest, make the prize be that they will be picked up in a horse drawn carriage or some other fancy mobile for next year's party. Or if it's not too late for this year, when you send out the invites for the RIP, tell them that the 13th person to send it in will be fetched to your party by escort. Then if you're having a theme party, you can do up the ride for the party. Tell all the other people to arrive early so that when the chosen people arrive, it's like celebrities are arriving to your party. Enjoy the energy of that! If I had the cash for a big bash I'd do it up like that.

Go to the local costume or joke shop and buy plastic spiders, vampire fangs, and assorted small toys that get the idea across. Some Halloween treat bags if you can get them. Staple a bag of these festive toys to each invitation...include a few pieces of candy, maybe. Illustrate through image--the idea of what sort of fun this is. Explain in this manner that you take this kind of fun seriously, and that you mean to dive into it with gusto!

Like your favorite horror movie on a rainy night, the immersion into these imaginary, stylized worlds is at the center of all the fun.

It is different from just getting together with friends and "having a beer" or "watching the game." This sort of party takes effort on the part of everyone, attendees included, but it pays off in a rare and imaginative form of enjoyment.
    "WHAT'S out there?"

"I don't know.......it was little and brown, and low to the ground!"
