Does anything like this happen to anybody else? Whenever I walk by a storm drain, I imagine a clown reaching out and grabbing me. Am I the only one that Stephen King has effected in this way? Please tell me I'm not weird!![]()

Well, I can honestly say that there are not too many times that I have passed a storm drain and haven't thought of that. Just like, there aren't too many nights, when I am watching a scary move, that I do not have the blinds closed on the big window right behind me. I can just picture that kid from "Salems Lot "floating up and scaring the poop out of me. The "Kingster" just has a way of planting certain images that seem to stay with you forever. No...you are not weird!! King is just that good.
Who truly knows what awaits us in the night?

I don't see too many drains where I live but I do think about that too...it doesn't scare me tho'...more like reminds me of the book.
Now I think anyone who sits with a window behind them is just plain crazy...lol! That terrifies me more than anything to think that someone or thing might come crashing thru the glass any minute!

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one! It doesn't actually scare me, I just imagine it happening. I work at work and they're are storm drains all over. One day I was walking and I heard something move in the storm drain! I nearly had a heart attack, but then I realized it was where a stray cat was living.

Not afraid of clowns, but i cant look out a window at night when the lights are on inside, for fear of seeing someone or something standing behind me. The windows turn into huge mirrors. Freaky!

Not so worried about drains, but whenever I see a balloon, the very first thing I think is "They all float down here". Say what you will about the man, he could certainly create a picture in your mind through his words that was WAY-Y-Y-Y worse than anything Hollywood could come with. I remember sleeping with the lights on for a week while I was reading Salem's Lot!

OMG Shebear...I can relate. I read Pet Semetary in two afternoons and despite the daylight I was scared witless!
The movie didn't scare me as much as the book. Although...when the little boy came back to life and said to his father..."I played wif Mommy and now I want to play wif youuuuuuuuuuuu". Gives me goosebumps just thinking about that.
Digs: storm drains do remind me of that movie, even though I have yet to see the entire thing. I've tried watching it late at night and I either fall asleep or get spooked.

I love the movie version of "IT", but I tend to like the first part - the part where they are all kids - better than the second half. Regardless, it's still one of my favorite King creations. I have been disappointed in a couple fo the movie versions of his books, for instance Needful Things and Shadows. Both of those books were so much better than their big screen counterparts, because the movies left so much detail out that you get when you read.

I expect to see a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle to be looking back at me from a storm drain... I wonder what does that tell for me? (L)
