Somewhere between 12-15 years ago, I bought what I consider to be the single best pumpkin carving knife ever made.
It was Child Safe, and came in one of the stencil kits at the time. Quite possibly pumpkin masters. However, unlike the current set of knives that come in such kits that amount to tiny saws that bend at the slightest pressure, this thing was much akin to a butter knife with a large wavy serated blade. Not sharp at all, perfect for children.
I've used the heck out of this thing, and I've been looking in stores for another for the last 5-6 years to no avail. Now, since we're seriously considering a setup that will include in the neighborhood of 100 pumpkins, I'ld like to be able to call in some assistance from the neighborhood to help carve, and would like to get ahold of some more of these things, if they can be had.
Anyone know what I'm talking about? Know where to get one?
(I'll try to get pics up later tonight)

Here's the thing.
(yes...that's pumpkin guts still on the thing....I don't think it's been washed in 10 years, just rinsed and tossed back in the bucket with the rest the pumpkin tools...)
Anyone know of anything like it on the market?

This one looks very close to it blade-wise, handle's shaped differently though and I see the website is in the UK. If you can't buy direct maybe one of our kind UK haunters can help you out. http://www.cookingtime.co.uk/index.p...productId=1891
I did look online for awhile to see what else I could see; and the knife above seems to be the closest I could find. I just hate when I find something I like and it gets discontinued, etc. and you can't find a replacement. Hope you end up with something you like just as well as your original knife.

I've got that! We picked up a couple of kits about 5 years ago with that and the puncher and a scraper... none of the stuff now looks quite the same.
This may be the right kind (there are apparently lots of sports teams carvers - so apologies if this isn't a popular team
but the price is cheaper than some of the others):

Yeah, we have that knife, it's not as wide, and thus bends too easy for the kids. The handle is pencil thin and murder on my tendonitis.

There for a year or two right when the kits first came out they had a set that had THIS knife, and one with a curved blade for cutting curves. That curved knife broke, but worked great as well.

Ooo, that's the blade alright.
According to the website, though, shipping would put it at ~$20. (assuming my math on the exchange rate is correct)
May as well go with the next closest thing I could find so far at that price.
Amazon.com: Van Vacter Pumpkin Melon Knife, Black and Stainless Steel: Kitchen & Dining
Little more than I really want to spend on a knife a bunch of kids are going to be utilizing. (but I just may buy one of those for ME...that handle looks like it might help my tendonitis)

Frankie's Girl, you are the best!
I can't explain how much this means to me on an otherwise horrid week where some weather coupled with a leaking shed ruined just about everything I've worked on this year.

Oh thank frog they got there!

I hope they are the kind you can use. Sorry about not sending more of the scoop things, but I figured you wanted the knives more than those.
So sorry you're having a bad week and I hope you can salvage your props!I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

Well, thanks to FG, my collection of these has grown to 20!
However, I need MORE!
This was just HALF, with more in the back yard.
We had the 20 safe knives and some real ones mixed in attempting to police them only to adults...
I'd like to remove the real knives all together, to keep little fingers away as much as possible.
So, we're on the hunt for more of these knives at a reasonable price. Anyone know of any good sources?
So far:
Pampered Chef has decided to carry a knife for $4.
http://www.pamperedchef.com/our_prod...productId=9761
Party City has a set I'm not sure if the knife with the smaller serrations will work or not. So, $5 for potentially 2 knives...(no idea shipping costs, requires account to calculate)
http://www.partycity.com/product/bas...&navSet=170584
$10 for 2 knives I'm sure will work.

Halloween Costumes has a $3 kit...anyone bought from them before? ($8 after shipping, bleh)
