Well, lately we've been having some debate whether or not our haunt should be a maze, (Multiple paths, dead ends, etc.), or a one-way path. I've heard that each has its positives, but I wanted to turn to you guys. What are your opinions? Maze? Or one-way tour?

If this is for the ToTs....then go with the one-way tour. Waiting for kids to get out of your maze can slow down ToTs, and that means they don't get to go to as many houses.
Unless you give them the candy first and the option to go through the maze.
Last year I started handing out candy in the garage and had the ToTs go out the side door and back down the driveway. This year, I'm planning on expanding into the back yard, so when the ToTs go out the side door, they'll have their candy in hand and they can either go back down the driveway or around the house.

Go with a one-way tour. The ToT's lag enough on a one-way. A maze would be a mess.

i had a maze last year, but i had the kids hold onto a rope and i guided them through. kept the pace that way, kept them together, and kept their hands busy. it worked out very well. if you have lots of kids go through, have more than just you as a guide. even when it's not a maze, i never let kids go through alone. they always get a guide

"Maze" as defined by the general public –

"Look! It's a maze!" (I hear this quite often.) Are they looking at a maze? No. It's two walls across from each other, it's a hallway, BUT the average person thinks it's a maze.
Maybe they expect a maze or really don't have a clear definition of maze in their mind?
Build a wall with some alcoves ....and it becomes a maze!
Keep those alcoves shallow so nobody gets lost, paint the interior of the alcove dark to create the wonder and mystery of those unseen realms."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

We have had a maze but one way is ALOT less trouble. If a person is scared on the way down a dead end hall, it is so hard to get them to come back out. Plus if you spend alot of time on props and scenery you don't want them to miss anything. I used to really decorate my dead ends also. Sometimes teenagers will get "lost" on purpose. Mass chaos. Maintaining good flow is hard enough as it is.

If you have enough space, I would encourage you to go with a variation of the "One Way" trip. We have, in the past, used a Figure 8 layout that is a real blast. The ToT's (and even the Adults) lose their sense of direction after a few turns in a dimly-lit, unfamiliar path. Lots of fun!

I would go with the one-way tour. A lot easier to move the traffic through. And it would probably take less space and planning than a maze.

We are doing a one way maze , but various zone also. (if the winds doesn't destroy everything like last year before halloween night ..sight....)
