One of the main things that used to drive my Halloween spirit was my interest in the paranormal but now that I don't believe in the paranormal I just don't have that Halloween spirit anymore.

halloween is a holiday for fun and scares with made-up ghosts, monsters and goblins. the perfect holiday for those who don't believe. the one night we can all pretend that something might be waiting in the dark to get us.. even if you don't believe in the existence of real spirits and spooks! so don't despair, just let your imagination of this great holiday run wild and enjoy it with the rest of us. (wow didn't mean to go all dr. phil on you)

Weirdrob, is there a reason that you do not believe anymore? What changed your mind?? There are plenty of us who may or may not believe, but have several reasons for why we love Halloween. Is there another reason that you do?? If so, embrace that and let your Halloween spirit shine!

There are thousands of people who-

a.) don't believe and have a rational outlook that expects empirical evidence, and

    b.) LOVE Halloween.

I'm one of them, and I adore the holiday. The festival is about mocking our fears and superstitions, having a chance to laugh at them.

I don't believe as a matter of lifestyle.

I don't believe the sun will rise - I accept the immense liklihood it will.
I don't believe my wife loves me - I have ample evidence she does, testable and repeatable.
These are not issues of faith. I can find no logical reason to engage in faith at all.

I don't believe Santa visits my house at Christmas,... but I still hang a stocking.
I don't believe in magic,... put I still hold my breath when I put a hat on a snowman.
It's the same sort of fun we have at the movies. It's imagination being given a free ride with no conditions, the willing suspense of disbelief for entertainment.
I don't put a Jack O' Lantern out to ward away evil, I do it because it's fun to carve them, the porch looks neat when guarded by one and it welcomes the tricksters to come get treats.

Your belief or a-belief has no relation to the holiday or your ability to enjoy it.

is this implying that those people that do believe in ghosts or an afterlife are irrational?

It's saying some people approach the topic using logic and not faith. Faith is not based on reason by it's nature. It isn't rational - if it was, it wouldn't be belief.

I don't see that I've implied anything, I've said it. No biggie, no one is rational about everything. I'm not rational all the time.
Humans have emotions as well as logic.

It is a matter of choice as to when you choose to apply one or the other.

Halloween is not just about the ghosts the ghouls and the goblins. To me Halloween is something that brings my childhood out. Halloween is crisp autumn air, corn harvests, Jack O Lanterns, smells of cinnamin and pumpkin spice, hot coco, hot cider, cartoon specials like Charlie Brown, The Halloween Tree, Scooby Doo and Garfields Halloween. Halloween is sugar cookies, punch, hard drinks, candy apples and sweets galore. Halloween is seeing the innocence in a childs eyes as they say trick or treat nervously standing amongst the props in the yard for their first time. Halloween is the sound of children laughing and screaming at the same time. Halloween is the smell of chimney smoke and firepits adding warmth to the nights as they grow colder.

Halloween is an experience and that is something you dont have to believe in but something that you can and will be a part of every year of your life. Now if that didnt re-stock your Hallowene Fuel Tank then I dont know what else to say
