Checking into doing a haunted house or zombie prom fundraiser for our high school marching band. If you could do either, which would you do?
For those of you who have done a haunted house fundraiser before did you have to get special insurance? This would only be for a couple of nights as our time is limited.
Any special tips?
TIA

Zombie Prom, its easier to do with a school. Plus I think it will have more kids going to it.

I totally agree with Biggie, the kids would love the theme, the school would already have a space, it would be a snap to decorate, you could even have a Zombie Walk that ends AT the prom and do one of those by-the-mile donation things to raise even more funds, plus charge for tickets to the Zombie Prom. (Or you could do these two things as seperate functions on different dates) Maybe you could get some local business people to donate prizes for best costume catagories so that you could advertise that there would be really cool prizes (not that trophies aren't really cool prizes, but you can't beat a massage or something like that!) Sorry about the rant, but if I have to write the ideas as they come....or they are gone....

Zombie prom, definitely! In addition to all the great ideas listed above, I'll bet you could even get media coverage to help drum up interest and sales.

Linus: You've heard about fury and a woman scorned?
Charlie Brown: Yes, I guess I have.
Linus: Well that is nothing compared to the fury of a woman who has been cheated out of tricks or treats!

You can charge more for a dance, and it requires way less preparation and overhead. Buying a haunted house full of stuff & getting it set up is a HUGE task, whereas you can do more with less if the focus is on the costumes/attendees and not the decor.
See if you can get a volunteer DJ, and a free space to hold it. Get a kid to draw the poster/invites, or have a few dress up for a photo shoot campaign to publicize it. You can pre-sale tickets to get some capital going and avoid overspending. Sounds like tons of fun!

Trophies would actually be pretty cool, you could have a nice stained wooden base reading best costume on a little piece. Then on it you could have a corpsed arm featuring a mangled hand.

Prom would be cool, but I don't know if a lot of girls would get into it on a night they wanna look more like a princess and see their beau in a tux??
