"Chinese Flying Lanterns" as seen here -
http://www.flyingchineselanterns.com/index2.htm
I'm considering ordering a dozen of these and having my brother-in-law release one every five minutes from the back yard. Apparently they can be seen from a great distance, and might attract the curious. And, hey, anything strange or unusual always has a place at the Wolfman's house!
Have any of you seen these before?

We used to make something similar when I was a kid out of dry cleaning bags attached to a crossbar made from cardboard coat hanger tubes & birthday candles. They looked so magical going up into the night sky, but we had to eventually stop because of the fire hazard (ah, those days of our frivolous, careless youth!)
The flying lanterns in your link look wonderful- think they might be featured in some travel commercial I've seen recently...for Taiwan, Singapore...? Anyway, I'd buy them for sure- they look great in the vid/photos.

I've seen regular paper lanterns, but never flying ones. I think that those would definitely draw some curious folks to your place, Wolfman

Some of our local fireworks shops carry them. I've never bought any myself, but I have seen them fly. They are visible for miles. I never thought about using them on Halloween, but what a great idea! I may just have to pick up a few when the shops open next month.
I'm all that's left of a bizarre childhood.......

I can see these being photographed and shown on Coast To Coast as "UFO". LOL

Is there anyway to tether them somehow so that they fly overhead, instead of drifting off, kind of like a searchlight, to draw people to your haunt?

I would be curious to the legality of flying those.

I know many place are trying to ban them, as they are good at starting fires in the dry season and damaging roofs of someone's house. Myself, I truly would not recommend them, as knowing what damage they can do. Get a search light beam, instead.
