I have volunteered to help improve the Haunt trail at our campground and wondering what is the average length of time to walk a trail. I paced it off at about 6 min give or take. Now that's just a normal pace with no stopping to look at anything or being stopped by anything. I timed it in broad daylight so my timing might be off by a few minutes or so, but I am curious?

If anyone has timed their Haunts that would be great if you could give me your times. I will try to pace off the distance this weekend to give out more info.
The trail has uber potential, some areas are creepy in the daylight. Lots of ups and downs, twists and turns, that obscure the path. I'll post some pics when we get the trail cleaned up a bit, the winter storms really tore it up this year. The fella who has been running the trail for years now has been doing it basically as a one man show with a few volunteers who aren't as enthusiastic as he is about our common addiction. I hope to infuse new "Life" cough, cough, I mean "Death" into the operation.

If the average haunted hayride is 30 minutes....
Then wouldn't a walking haunt trail be at least half the time?

soni does a haunted trail, you might check with her. you can do a lot in 6 minutes. depends on how much room you have and what you want to accomplish.

My first thoughts are there actors? Are groups lead through? If not problems I can see in a long trail is people straggling causing bottlenecks, bad people messing with or destroying props, those going off trail, or the need to quickly evacuate someone in distress.

In the least most if not all of it should be monitored at a glance.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

I do a nice backyard trail and have lots of room to expand but don't plan to. A 10 minute walk is long anuff for little ToT's legs, of course we get some strollers as well. You'll see our over head map photo below. One trick we use to make the trail longer without walking too far is to zizag through the cedars........kinda like a dark ride. Below is a funny video of one of our actors did (his accent is fake) as he did a trail tour.YouTube- Bozz's Backyard Bog and Trail... Zach the criticKeep in mine he rushes through it because 10 minutes is all you have on youtube.

i find that the kids want to go through the haunt, but they want to tot and get lots of candy too. they want it, but they want it short. the parents a lot of the time are the most drivan for getting as much candy as possible and want to move on. if the kids want to go through again, most the time the parents say let's come back. but rarely do they come back.

hi. i do a haunted trail, too! it's great fun to create and watch come to life with props, actors and patrons. more people should make a trail.

anyway, ours is about 15 minutes or so to walk through, guided by a group leader (to ensure prop/actor/patron safety) but really the length of your trail will depend on the space you have available, the quantity of props you have for various scenes and the number of actors who show up to scare.

ours had about 10 full-fledged scenes, with various smaller scares in between. someone had a video camera last year and shot a couple of minutes of it, if you'd like to see. turn the volume down, it's VERY loud

we did! we had tons of fun! it makes me so sad that we're not doing it this year
we're taking a year off to start a bigger trail, at a new, better location. right now it's just 5 acres of heavily wooded land. we're starting from scratch, cutting in a trail and building props like crazy to have enough stuff for our new, expanded trail!
    wish us luck!

I paced off the distance this weekend and found out that we have a quarter mile long trail. Roughly 1,300 ft. The trail is rough but lots to work with including a playground partially submerged in a swampy area where I will be concentrating most of my efforts on, check out some of the pics...

Toxic dump up trail and up a slight hill from playground playing into a toxic zombie area, some heads rising outta water, 55 gal drums turned over with fog chillers spilling from splits in drums etc, etc, etc...
