Has anyone worked at the Spirit stores? I worked for Halloween USA last year, and I got a call from my manager wanting me to come back. I'm not sure if I want to. There were a lot of problems and a lot of turnover, plus it cut into my prop building time. I was wondering if anyone has worked at Spirit and what they are like. I wonder if they've got their act together?

I have not worked at a store but have paid a lot of attention. Most Spirit stores are independently run, so each one will be different. So I would imagine some employers would be better than others. I hear that many work at a store year after year, so that says something.

I would imagine that it would be fun (but really hard work)

I did have a good time overall, but you are right, it was really hard work. At lot of stock to keep up with.

I had two friends work at Spirit last season, they absolutely loved working. They got to costume up and help people out, somedays the manager would do latex makeup jobs on them instead. The reason it was great was because of the manager, I talked to him a couple times and he is a halloween nut like the rest of us. Now my brother worked at one up north and he hated it, his main reason was the manager was strictly business and no "spirit". So just talk to the Manager during your interview, and offer to help setup the store as this will get you on a personal level with him.

I worked at spirit last year. I wanted to see all new items. I did it just for fun. I did get some nice discounts. It was not like a job, to me. I told them when I started I would never have a paycheck. The jobs here are just minimum wage. So, you do have to like it. You can dress up if you like.
I also am making a Huge Dollhouse miniature Halloween/theatrical/dance store for me. I loved getting more ideas for hanging up all my miniature halloween costumes, and accessories. I also found new ideas for making new ones. So for me it was great. I might try it again this year, depends where the store will be located.

Seems like fun. I actually have the availablility, but it would cut too much into my own halloween so I don't plan on doing so.

If I could have control over the hours I work and get the discounts especially after Halloween, then I would consider working there. But I highly doubt any manger would let me do that.... Bummer.

Yeah, I don't think they'd appreciate anyone banging out on halloween and I wouldn't want to do that to my employer either. You're either there to work, or don't bother, imo.

At Halloween USA we got a 30% discount. But you couldn't add it to the clearance prices end-of-season. I did get to dress up, but it had to be a pretty comfortable costume. I had to work on Halloween, but I got off at 5, so it wasn't bad. I was supposed to leave at 4, but since we were swamped, and I was an assistant manager, I had to stay and help. Of course, we closed shop at 7, so it wasn't too bad for any of the workers.
The worst part of working there was picking up after everybody. Shoppers just let their kids run wild, trying on masks and throwing them on the floor, sword fighting and breaking the swords. And don't even get me started on the stealing!!! The majority of people were great, and just wanted a great halloween experience, but those other monsters weren't fun at all!
