So, balloons. Do kids even still like balloons?
How would you feel about them on Halloween? I'm looking for all kinds of opinions here. I mean, would it seem like a cop-out to give kids less sugar? Would you think it's kind of a show-off move?
I'm asking because we're renting a helium tank anyway for our Evil Clown/Circus theme, and was possibly thinking of doing just that. Handing out normal, helium filled, colored balloons. Not that I won't still give out candy too, I will. But would you want a balloon on Halloween as a kid?

I'm 46 and I would still want a helium filled balloon! I think it's a great idea!
Little ones will love it and just think of the fun the older kids will have sucking out the helium and talking like chipmunks.Dear Sweet Leota, Beloved By All. In Regions Beyond Now But Having a Ball...

I hardly do candy for Halloween. I give out things I buy from Orientaltrading.com I've given out dog tags colored in orange and black with bats cats on them. Rubber duckies (the real little ones love these) in Halloween costumes. Even the teens ask for them. Halloween wrist bands. I tend to go back to the Duckies more than others. oh yeah and the Halloween Slap bands. I think its something different and kids love things that are different. I think it would be kewl to get a Halloween Balloon I think kids of all ages would love it as well. Here are pics of the things I have mentioned above.

If you do balloons, either buy a box of washers at the hardware store or start saving nuts, bolts and washers now.
Tie them onto the bottom of every string. This keeps them from "accidentally" floating away and means you only have to give one to each TOTer instead of two.

I'd say go for it! As long as there is still the partaking of candy goodness, TOTs will be quite happy to take a souvenir home ... or as Madame Leota mentioned, have fun with the helium
. I volunteer frequently at the local museum, and on family days balloons are often available for kids. Considering we usually run out of balloons during the course of the afternoon, I would imagine you should have many takers.

Great idea! As Screaming Demons says, tie a heavy enough washer to the end of each string. No one wants a tearful trick-or-treater whose helium balloon flew away.

kids love balloons. you could give them deflated ones and they would be happy. so heck yes they'll like balloons. of course you can tie it on their wrists with the slip tie so it's easy to take on and off. i always give a trinket as well as candy. they love it

Thanks for the replies so far, guys!
I was going to tie the candy to the balloons, as we'll be giving out small swirly lollipops (excuse me while I take my theme too far) and something else, but I'm not sure those would hold the balloons down now. Hmm. Washers/nuts/bolts sound like a good idea.

Hey,
Sounds terrific. My daughter will be 6 this Halloween and my son will be 3. I am positive both of them and all their friends would love balloons and swirly lolipops. Once other kids see them you will probably get even more kids than normal. When storage is a concearn, put your monster props under the kids beds.
