I happen to have a decent sized forest right across the street from my house that is just begging to be involved in my yard haunt somehow. I realize it is not my property, so, anything I do there would need to be fairly small and simple. I'm not too worried about any legal issues...It doesn't belong to any local residents and anything done there would be set up and torn down within a day.

There are no sidewalks on my road, so any ToTs have to walk along the road right between my house and the woods, which are pretty thick and grow right up to the roadside.

Initial thoughts have been simple music and/or sound effects, some sort of lighting effects, or maybe just a few scattered pumpkins.

    Anyone have any interesting ideas?

It's such a great idea to do something with that area leading up to your haunt! I'm a firm believer that less is more when it comes to roadside, as my stint in a place with a side forest like yours became a lesson in the how to. FWIW, a single ghostly white figure placed back from the roadline behind some tree or foliage & properly lighted (perhaps blacklight spot, a few blue or other color spots?) would be "the it" for that area.

I love the lighting effect seen, of all places, in the backyard of the residence of the French ambassador to the United States. Of course, that would require stringing power lines across the road.

Add a bunch of lit jack-o'-lanterns at ground level.

To finish, hide a boom box up a tree, and play Halloween sound effects.

I would check with the city first just to make sure you don't end up having to take it all down during the big night. Other than that, it sounds like a good idea.

Can you get power to that area? If you can, I would hang a witch or something in a tree and put a spot light on it. Witches have always scared the crap out of me since I was a little. Maybe you could put some blair witch style symbols up like this: http://www.collider.com/uploads/imag...e_image_02.jpg

Or have a flying crank ghost hung somewhere in the distance... or have some type of forest creature running along side the ToT's as they walk up, but just out of sight to freak them out. If it was me, I'd run at them from the forest, lol, then dash away back into the woods. You could also have one of your kids walking up with the ToT's pretending to be an innocent bystander...then whamo, run up, grab them and drag them into the forest as they scream.
If a kid cries...I did it right.

LOL! That would be awesome, and my son would love it...my wife...not so much

I do like the idea of a witch in the trees too...maybe I'll combine the two - dress up as a witch and scare kids from the woods!
