Most people in my immediate area don't do much other than a little yard decorating (lights, pumpkins, maybe an airblown or a Gemmy animated prop on the porch at the door). I have noticed a few parents walking around in costume so that's always encouraging and fun to see.

This past year I had my husband hand out candy while I walked over to see where the screams and laughter from the kids was coming from on a street near me. My one neighbor who does a great job decorating both stories of his house was posed as a grim reaper statute at his front door. I thought he was prop at first. Great look and startling when he finally moved. His next door neighbor (new guy on the block) had a chain saw and could be heard to be going after the kids every so often. Haven't met him yet but plan on stopping by to introduce myself this summer. These guys really seem to make the extra effort to give the kids a thrill.

As far as elaborate decorating however, can't really say that I've seen much of that right around me. Saturday last year was pretty slow and not the volume of kids from the previous year so we hopped in our car at 9pm and drove to two local home haunts listed in our newspaper. Both were fun and nicely done. One was a maze format and the other just a walk past kind of thing. Fog machines, lights, music, animated props (many home made), so really a lot of fun for me to see.

    LOL creepycathy, you funny gal!!

No one in my area...it's way too quiet in fact. I figure, they all think I'm nuts. And they may be right!

I thought I did. These kids come up to the house and told me that I had competition from a house down the block. They had a few things and some yellow, "do not cross" tape but I don't think of them as competition just yet. But I took a photo of it last year, will have to show you when I get home. Maybe this year they will give me a run for my money. Hope I don't sound cocky, because I am not.

I'm about the only one that does a Haunt. The city actually tries to encourage kids to go to the City Hall Carnival and play games for candy and costume contests. Then they have drawings for mountain bikes n stuff and say if your name is called you have to be at your house by 9pm if you are not home it goes to the next person. I still get a good amount of ToT's but I'm sure it would be so much more if the City didn't do that on Halloween every year for the past 25 years or so.

WTF? That's one way to enforce a curfew on Halloween. Heck, I'd just give them my cell phone number. Or do they drive to your home to make sure you're really at home and tucked into bed?

I have 2 houses I actively encourage and answer questions. (used to be 3 but one moved) And 2 other kids entering their teens that always want to do something but parents wont allow.

I had one claiming to be competition a couple years back. I asked them if I could come see and was told no. Meh.
