OK, I swore this would be the year that I got rid of the generic tombstones and made some really cool ones. I had planned a "Hollywood" theme, making stones for the late great legends of horror, for example, Bela Lugosi, Lon Chaney, etc. But now I am just not feelin' it. I may still go with that but I'd really like to hear more ideas before I commit to anything. I know I don't want to use the tried and true humorous epitaphs that are so popular, but beyond that I am open to suggestions.

I should also add that I am the type of person that must follow a theme - I simply CANNOT mix things that don't go together! Sick, I know.

    Suggestions?

Well, I don't know if this would fit into your definition of a theme, but I made a tombstone that had a "floating" candle that would rise and fall in a sort of circular pattern last year (sorry no pics). Basically it was one of the standard PVC LED candle modifications that I've seen around the halloween how to sites attached to a darkened rod that had a small grooved wheel down at the bottom which was then attached to a cam wheel and slow speed motor. The pivot point was simply an eyebolt with a large enough diameter to allow unhindered operation, painted to match the Tombstone color.

At night with just the candle lit and flickering, the rod and mechanical stuff below would disappear completely with the eye drawn upwards to where the light was. Very effective. My only problem was that the motor burned out cause the site I used got damp enough to short out the motor.

I plan on doing stones with the names of my family on them. What's cooler than looking at your own tombstone and seeing a rotted groundbreaker rising from it? Now all I need is time!

Here's our cemetery. We intend to add a SERIOUS cemetery gate, some hella-large fencing all around, make our ToT'ers walk through the cemetery, and improve my floating lantern so it covers more area.

We also intend to have a less windy season cuz our fog chiller blew away so quickly, it was a joke! Heh heh.

And yes, the obelisk is ten feet tall. We said screw it, go big or go home!

What if you expanded from just the late great horror actors to anyone from Hollywood? Or anyone from horror instead of hollywood? You could make stones for the munsters, addams, sanderson sisters...
Lol I feel for ya on having to make things that go together, I find it annoying but still have yet to change my ways.
Archivist- the light sounds cool, you should write a tutorial

Instead of making tombstones for the legends, what about tombstones for their victims?
For instance, a tombstone with fangs for drac. One with claw marks for wolfman. One with seaweed for the swamp thing....ect.

That's a GREAT idea MsMeeple. I just may have to use the swamp thing idea. (or maybe The Creature from the Black Lagoon) Thanks!

This is a weird idea but how about a circus-themed cemetery? It must be lit with blacklight and have some colors in it. I think the kids would love it and it would be unique.

    Some ideas:

    Elephant monument stone
    Clown stone
High-wire stone (two stones next to each other with a wire strung between them)
Circus tent top for the gate
    Strong man (barbell on top)

Ours went with the criminally insane, for the most part. Then we had a few leftover funny ones from years before.

    More suggestions:

    Crooked Politicians who got caught/ousted

Dictator leaders from other nations. Mussolini, Hussein, Kim Jong Il, Castro...

Sports heroes who screwed up. Tiger Woods, Sammy Sosa, Barry Bonds, Ron Artest, Mike Vick...

Brand names of musical instruments. Les Paul, Leo Fender, Alex Dumble, Stuart Spector, James Marshall...

Maybe do very ancient looking tombstones, engraved with Latin phrases or symbols from other languages. You could weather them so the engraving was just visible to give them an ancient 'look'.
