Hey Everyone,
I am looking at starting a business that specializes in professional haunt audio. I would be composing music and sound effects, making custom soundtracks, and also custom compositions. Do you think this kind of thing would be an interest to the haunt community? Also all of the sounds effects I would use I actually recorded. For example the thunder, crows, screams, etc. is all real to give the haunter an extremely realistic atmosphere. As far as custom soundtracks, I would add whatever the desired haunter wanted, whether it would be ghostly moans mixed with wind, or even a custom voiceover. All of the sounds are and would be professionaly recorded in my studio and the quality would be extremely professional! Please let me know what you think about this idea!
Thanks,
Vince

There are quite a few businesses specializing in music and sound effects for the haunting industry. PoisonProps.com is one that comes to mind. I'm sure many haunters would be interested in quality tracks at a reasonable price, but most home haunters would like to find the audio for free. If you do start a business, don't even think about using any audio shared on this forum. I like your idea of recording everything your self. Quite ambitious.
One idea for generating interest is to offer several quality track samples for free. Then if someone is interested, they would purchase the full or extended version. I like your idea of creating custom tracks, but would that be much more expensive than already made tracks? What kind of pricing are you thinking about?

Always looking for new cool halloween tracks, i think if you offer unique stuff you will have good shot. I don't think i would do thunder and such, there is already so much of that stuff out there now.

Hello Haunter,
Thanks for the replying to my thread!
As a home haunter myself the first thing that comes to mind like any other home haunter is price, so making these products reasonable is one of my priorities. The prices for my pre-made soundtracks would range from 10 - 20 dollars depending on what it is, and custom orders would start at 50.00 for 30 min of audio.
I am a music composition major and a sound design minor, so all of the audio is and will be recorded/composed by me. It would also be tracked and mixed in a professional quality studio. The idea behind this is that serious haunters will be getting movie soundtrack quality audio out of there PA or speaker system.
I am working on a website now and it will be up by the end of May. It will have several samples to listen to and more information about how to order and customize your own soundtrack. Once again thanks for sharing some of your thoughts and please let me know what you don't like and do like!
thanks,
Vince

Hey Kprimm,
The "typical sounding tracks" I have put together sound like the real deal because it's all real, especially if you are using a good sound system. For example the thunder tracks I have put together is actually real thunder and you can tell a difference when playing it out of your PA. At my haunt last year it rumbled the ground and no lie, people thought it was going to rain. Some of the thunder i have recorded can not even be heard through the human ear because the frequencies are so low, but a speaker can push that out.. Especially if you use a subwoofer in your haunt. So instead of hearing thunder you get a nice uncomfortable rattle in your ears.

Sounds good to me. If you enjoy doing it, go for it.
Can never have enough choices in haunt music.
I think themed tracks would work with low level sounds added to a themed sound track
Cavern bats and drips.
Parlor fire crackles, mouse squeaking, and clock movement
Morgue echo of metal scraping, doors opening drawers sliding, and faucet drips
Library pages flipping, books falling, and wood scraping

Vince,
What kind of sound system do you recommend for the home haunter for outdoor audio?
A lot of haunters start out using boomboxes and AC-powered speakers connected to an mp3 or CD player. I use a laptop connected to AC-powered speakers for my talking skulls and a mini AV component system with built-in amp, a pair of medium-sized speakers, and a subwoofer for thunder sounds. I've noticed the amp, larger speakers, and subwoofer really make a difference in the quality of sound, especially outdoors.
With outdoor audio, I'm worried not only about the quality of sound, but the placement of cables and protection from weather. I found a nice quality outdoor wireless speaker that I'm thinking of incorporating into my display.

I think you would get a lot of people interested, what haunter doesn't want more sound effects/ ambience? I like that you are going to record everything yourself, that will make your cds stand out against others that were fixed with computers or made entirely through software.
Hello, I want my book. Bonjour, je veux mon livre.

I think you could get quite a bit of business, especially if you keep custom orders reasonable. Problem I have with many of the recordings I find is that it either includes music that just does not fit my haunt OR the sounds/effects don't flow; IE outside eerie sounds for a minute or two and then your suddenly in a dungeon with someone being tortured. And the cheesy screams *ugh* LOL...
