I have had the tradition ever since I was little that the pumpkins were disposed of after Halloween. Throughout the years I have done several different methods including:
Rolling down a steep hill into a river
    Dropping into a gorge
    Feeding to pigs
Shooting the heck out of them
Here are some pictures from the last Halloween.

THIS LAST ONE IS AFTER THE 12 GAUGE AND .45 WERE DONE WITH IT

I prefer taking them to random places down town and putting a fresh candle in them the day after. I think it freaks alot of people out to see a random lit pumpkin in an alley or on top a street sign after Halloween.

Fun Fact: Tomatoes and Pumpkins are technically fruits but today's society ignorantly consider them vegetables.

Most of my first pumpkins usually tend to rot before Halloween so we wind up making a second... however, that one generally goes to various locations around town... like last year ours was on top of a random statue on campus, sorta like an evil hat...got a few stares.

Amen. Although, I tend to do ones specific to that year's theme. I have 6 fleur de lis pumpkins (for our Voodoo/NOLA theme last year) I'm thinking about selling. They won't work at all for this year's theme.
