I am a extreme fan of film and I have the largest movie collection out of everyone I know. I find alot of inspiration for Halloween Props and General Spooky feelings from film. What I find interesting is there are tons of movies that are not Halloween themed that I love because it reminds me of Halloween. I just finished watching Darby O Gill and The Little People last night. I have seen the movies so many times but I love the Banshees and Leprachauns. Last year I built a Banshee based on that film for my display. I also love Ghostbusters and I would love to build Stay Puft Marshmallow Man some day. I am also a huge Evil Dead/Army of Darkness fan.
So do you have any movies that are not Halloween based that you love and find inspiration from?

One movie that I take spooky inspiration from is The Changeling. That movie to me is fantastic when it comes to using music/sounds to create a really spooky atmosphere. It is not a gory movie at all but its got the creepy factor to the max!
As I was going up the stair, I saw a man that wasn't there.
He wasn't there again today...Oh how I wish he'd go away.

I love every one of those movies! Goonies has great pirate inspiration. This year I tapped into that a bit and had made 3 groundbreakers that were pirates and also had the Jolly Roger flying. The Fog was also a cool pirate film. I was debating on adding more pirates this year but I will be focusing on my Nightmare Before Christmas/Haunted Cemetary instead

Gremlins, undoughtedly the scarest Christmas movie ever. I really get more insperation from people rather than movies. This however is likely due to my lack of experiance. One good source of insperation though is resident evil. *succombs to flashback*

"Darby O Gill and The Little People" is my second favorite all time Irish based film. It's just loaded with interesting things, and it was one of Sean Connery's first films.
The Thing 1982 version - has a lot of great Special Fx I like watching it every now again.
The head morphing scene is a good one.

Just a few of the many movies that come to mind are:
Dead Silence (Ventriloquist dummies are creepy already, but this one gave me lots of ideas for a warped childhood theme), the Indiana Jones series (some great, frantic and creepy scenes throughout ... even if the 4th one was terrible), Pirates of the Caribbean series (a fairly obvious source for pirate stuff, but Tia Dalma's shack has some backwoods/voodoo potential, too). It is rather Halloween themed, but Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow is an amazing source of total eye candy inspiration. The classic Universal monster movies are also a great source. They have some wonderful moodiness and many a scene could translate easily to the amateur haunter's needs. Plus, they're great for getting you into the haunting mood
.
There are so many really inspirational horror and sci-fi movies out there, and even the campy classic monster B-movies give me ideas, though often those ideas are more appropriate to fun, goofy haunt themes. You can probably take your pick of the delightfully enjoyable monster flicks from the 40's & 50's, especially those that have a good sized fan base.
