My curse: before I throw anything away I say to myself "Can I use that for Halloween?"

I just replaced my hot water heater. I am agonizing over getting rid of the old one. Maybe I can hollow it out and make a big pop-up out of it. Anyone else go this problem?

I think most of us have the same problem! I like the idea of a pop-up. I think it could be really original. I vote you keep it!

Was going to get re-installed in an obvious location, look real, THEN the "smoke" would come pouring out of the gas burner access door! (A $10 fog machine)
I was given an old leaky pnuematic cylinder that wouldn't stop hissing out the exit port. I attached a very small soft copper tubing line to it and terminated it taped to the back of the furnace's gas pipe..nobody noticed it! drat!
I also got the big yellow "Do Not Run This Broken Furnace " tag from my friend at the gas company and hung it on the furnace, and again, nobody noticed it!
The other "Curse" is walking through the Farm & Fleet store looking at all of the bearings and hydralic cylinders they sell for tractors. They sell bolts by the pound, whata buy!

    Oh, my yes.

I come from a family of packrats (seriously bad ones) and it still causes me a split second of panic throwing out stuff. With the added "could I use this for a Halloween prop?" question popping up...

If I can't think of something RIGHT THEN to make with it - out it goes. Granted, I may think of something weeks later and regret it, but most of the time... nope. I like being able to get into every room in the house too much.

That is one bad thing about this sorta stuff, though...when does being a packrat and keeping stuff for a prop turn into hoarding, ya know? (hoarding actually is a mental disease)
