I usually have a witch room with cauldrons and bottles and brooms and skulls and a lot of little 'nick-naks. It is usually lit by a green light in an iron looking fixture. My actor in that room usually is stirring her cauldron and rambling off rhymes. But this year I would like to have nothing so 'cutsey. I was thinking of a with hanging scene or witch burning scene. But I can't think of what elce to do in the room which would be 10x10 feet. You might think you can t get alot in a room that size ,but you would be surprised!
So my question is How can I make this room 'Frightning" not just another witch stirring a pot! any ideas are appriciated on atmosphere or props. Oh ya my mummy room is usually an egyptian ish and I want to make it more scarier too. only without alot of 'stuff'. thanks again for ideas.

I was actually thinking the same thing for mine.

First off my witch is coming along to be looking quite horrible looking (YAY) according to family members. Maybe simply "uglying" up the actor would be a start?
Also put creepier things around like snakes, bats, rats, etc; those tend to give SOMEONE the willies.
What doesn't kill you can still make you walk funny.

But "Butching up" a woman so she has male attributes has never scared me.

What scares people? Everything or nothing?
I have many visual things happening on the exterior of my haunted house, which may serve to stimulate the customer's mind to the point that they begin thinking"Anything can happen here!"
Then Their imagination might kick-in and dredge up their personal fear-items making my scareing them easier!
What scares people? I scared away a man when he asked me if there was any "Tupperware" in my house?
I was truthfull and told him there was, I guess he had a Tupperware phobia or something?
His friends and coworkers couldn't believe this happened but they were standing outside my house in broad daylight as our conversation happened resulting in the previously mentioned results, him being too afraid to come inside.
It all begins upon their first glimpse of the exterior in my opinion."My Insanity is well-respected, until they wiggle free and become a stringer for a tabloid"

My daughter and I were thinking about our witch scene and was kicking around the idea of having a dummy in Quaker clothing either hanging or burning with a sign that reads "Thou shalt not judge less ye be judged". Then have the witches coven close by...

Use some pvc and make a cage with a couple children inside. Do the Hansel and Grettle theme. Then you can decorate with "candy" but, have grissly stuff mixed in. That way it fills up a lot of space. You can have a trail of candy bars to the cage, spray paint cheap steel wool to make spools of cotton candy, etc, etc.
