Thread: Gotta Get a Zhu Zhu Hamster for Halloween

So the big Xmas toy item this year seems to be the Zhu Zhu Hamster pets. Suppose to be like the Teddy Ruxpin or Cabbage Patch dolls of previous holiday seasons if you remember waiting in lines or searching for those. When I saw them I thought "that would be great to convert into a rat running in my Halloween haunt...maybe even running through clear horizontal pipes on the wall, in a scientist lab, or across the floor among my other mice and rats, etc.!" Something like $8-10 if they can be found at local stores. Anyone have any other ideas for them? At least after Xmas when the supplies get replenished they should be easier to get a hold of and in time for halloween. But if you find one for your kid for Xmas, you could always repurpose it later in the year.

Ok so decided to see if I could find one of these today. Target's website says they only had them online, not in stores and they were sold out of the 3-pack. Walmart had a bigger variety of items but also sold out online, however it said you'd have to check the store and they weren't tracking the store inventory online. So we have a Walmart not far from us so headed there after lunch. No Zhu Zhu's. The sales manager said they had one shipment come in and it sold out almost immediately. They have another order put in but their warehouse isn't showing anything in stock so she didn't know when or if they would get more. Said they were the hottest thing this season and based on how many people have asked her about them, she could have sold 100 of them a day already....yep Teddy Ruxpin/Cabbage Patch all over again. Gee didn't we go through this with the Grave Digger guy that TJMaxx had in limited quantity this past halloween??

So I looked to see what else was on the shelves and came upon the Hasbro Fur Real Friends. I ended up picking up the chimpanze (38.00) and will use him in my circus theme. It's really adorable and pretty lifelike. I really felt like I was looking into the eyes of a real chimp. I figure the younger ToTers will love him, and the older ones I'll use him as a diversion to then surprise them with rogue pop up (or live actor) gorillas which hopefully will give them a scare. Another idea for the chimp is in the scientist lab. Again pull them in with a cute prop and then scare them with another.

I liked the Fur Real Lulu kitty (Walmart 38.00) and would have bought it if it would have been all black. It's pretty lifelike also. Thought a black cat would be nice in a witch's cabin lying on a potion table. Heck, lots of other places as well. Contemplated spray painting it, but not sure how that would work out so opted for the chimp and the circus theme. They do have an all white cat that sits up although didn't see it at Walmart when I was there.

The chimp has a try me switch position as well as On/Off positions. Again either of these would make a wonderful holiday gift for your kid as long as they would loan it out to you for halloween. haha

Hope the chimp isnt real enough to throw poo around,I tried to do some shopping yesterday,I was out for a crossbow,got a remote helicopter,was going to get a video camera,bought stupid reindeer.I hate this time of year,next week Im getting a yellow lab,wonder what ill actually come home with?

I like the chimp. He looks better than the hamsters, but with some ingenuety I guess you can gore them out into rats.

OMG I think I need 5, are they hard to find yet............... I need to stand in line for 3 hours like I did for the Tickle me Elmo and all the other crap that they deem is hot year after year. LOL Sorry don't get into the trendy fads. Oh lets not forget the FURBIE! LOL give me a break.......
