Here's my thinking ... all 2 cents worthMake the perimeters of the prop contest pretty open. You can enter any kind of prop: paper mache', mechanical, tombstone, pneumatic...whatever. Then, whichever grabs the most votes wins. I foresee the most creative/original prop would be the winner... a crowd pleaser.
HauntForum has the $20 limit and they do a great job pulling out the creativity using very cheap materials. I propose upping that to $50. Then, you may see more hacking of everyday household items (like the shiatsu massager/zombie grabber).

the t shirt contest was cool. then you could purchase a t shirt advertising this forum. and the proceeds went to help support this forum we all like being on. i bought a t-shirt and a hoodie last year. i love them. i wanted to buy this year but they only take paypal and i don't have paypal at this time. bummer

i liked the Ma Guyver contest on Haunt forum, using recyled materials that we has to have a certain amount in the prop, the price was 25 dollars on top of the recycled things, there were a whole list of things, like soda bottle. broom handle, duct tape, coffee can, twine, wire clothes hanger, etc, and you had to take , I think 5 out of a list of 10 items, so you had to use creativity, which i like. it need not be called the Mac Guyver, of course, just the recycling contest, which we haunters do alot of anyway!
I know if we did a 50 dollar contest. you wouldn't have to use that much, but it seems high to me, the idea of a contest , to me. is to see how creative folks can be with a set of limitations. my 2 cents.

For my two pennyworth, I'm with Bethene.
firstly, I feel that a $50 spend may be a bit too steep for some members under the present economic climate..$20 or $25 may encourage more members to participate.
I like the idea of a "must use" list of recycled materials set by Larry or whoever is organising the contest...use any 5 from a list of 10 as bethene suggests.
The competition should be limited to static props.
There are some wonderfully talented artistic members here who are not necessarily mechanically inclined. Restricting the competition to static props would encourage maximum participation. We could run a seperate comp for animated or pneumatic props seperately, at a later date.

the static thing i think is sort of good and bad. because some props are "static" but with a little of machanics in it. but the $50 doller thing could be good by forums have to be a little differnt from each other... u want your fourm to stand out with its pros and cons. idk i think we might have something still going tho...
