I only buy costumes at full price, and that's for my kiddies. Other than that... only the stuff I need or run out of, like fog juice.
I shop at clearance price, pack it away and then it's like christmas next Halloween. I love that.

I love paying clearance prices.... but dont cry like a Llorona if the selection is bad. Shoulda bought it when you saw it.
I got a good mix of new and clearance.... and yes I am in fact crying like the Llorona because I didn't buy a couple of items.

bozz-you are the master of getting great deals.
I buy from spirit-hot items-normally with a coupon so that brings the sting down a bit.If it is something I really want I normally just buy it for fear that it won't be there come clearence time.I do buy alot on clearence tho so I would say 50-50.halloween props 2012 http://www.halloweenforum.com/member...012-props.html

Ha....H71, truth be known its my work schedule or lack of work....lol.....that allows me to run my routes to many stores and wait for price drops. Its an unfair advantage for me but because I make less now I have to spend less......its dirty hard work hunting for deals but somebody's got to do it....
......oh I enjoy it.....call me cheap.

I love visiting the Halloween aisles before the holiday, but I'm almost completely a clearance shopper. I've missed out on pieces I really wanted by waiting, but almost always more than compensated by finding something even more thrilling for a fraction of the price down the road. I do almost all my realspace shopping at thrift stores to begin with, and since I generally know my theme a year in advance, I can often find everyday items to use for pennies on the dollar compared to buying the equivalent in the party aisle at a retail store. I don't let my theme hem me in so that I pass on a terrific item, especially if it's a staple like animals or capes just because I don't know how I'm going to use it, but it's immensely helpful in looking for looking at everyday objects that I'll use in a new way. I'm also blessed by having a very active local Craigslist community for the odd pieces that are no longer made or impossible to find. Sometimes I've had to hunt online venues for months to find exactly what I'm looking for, but that's a major part of the fun.
I, too, love the thrill of unpacking great items bought throughout the year as if they were new. This year I bought so much that way I'd lost track of a lot, and an almost complete lack of organization in the packing process meant things that really should have gone out, didn't. Holding off on packing this year so that almost everything I bought on retail clearance could be incorporated with the existing items will probably take care of a lot of that problem. Probably. So much comes from finding this or that at a secondhand shop that maybe it won't. We'll see.

I will buy at reg. price if it's really something that I absolutely love and don't want to take a chance of losing out on. Or if it's in a store that I don't frequent that often. Not worth the driving time and gas otherwise for me. I do like shopping at places like TJ MAXX for a lot of halloween decor and household items. ROSS this past year was a treasure trove for me -- decor and Spirit Balls. DOLLAR TREE was a great source on certain things too. Do you consider those places full price (even though they are discounted to begin with?) I've used coupons at MICHAELS and JO ANN FABRICS and taken advantage of sales in general. When we moved to our first real house I didn't have much of anything halloween, now I feel like I'm pretty well set. Over all I'd say I've bought pretty much 50/50 if you consider paying full price at the discount stores as regular price.
As for clearance buying for the next year, I really try to buy only if I think I can use it for some prop theme I might do. I've seen things that I liked but passed on even at clearance if I couldn't see using it with other things I have. Storage becomes a big issue after you've been collecting halloween props and accessories for a few years.
