Default Why Do We Do It?

I really enjoy this forum, and I am constantly amazed by the creativity and dedication of the members. Each year, many spend spend hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars to decorate for a one night event that will be enjoyed and experienced (in most cases) by complete strangers. So, my question is why do you do it?

After lurking on this forum for a while, I believe our members are motivated by different reasons, and I am curious to hear them. For me, I enjoy the opportunity to utilize and express my creativity during my favorite season. Please share with us why you do it.

I think its a tradition I need to pass down to future haunters to keep the spirit as I remembered it as a child . And To hear the thanks from the parents for doing it for the kids and the neighborhood.

Mate, this idea has been posted numerous times, never grows old. My primary motivation is to give the kids in our neighborhood something precious - a Childhood Memory.

I enjoy the creative outlet it gives me and the challenge of thinking up something and then trying to make it actually happen.

Also this is the 2nd year that I've done my haunt in this neighborhood and already I've gotten a rep and leading up to Halloween many people came by and asked when I was setting up. Now that I've had two successful years I think I would feel bad if I ever let the fans down. On Halloween night I got a lot of comments like "this is the cool house from last year", "this is even better than last year" and "we were told we needed to come over and see this house". And I must admit it is nice to see people enjoy it so that really makes the effort, time and money worth it.

I got a lot of people this year.... and as long as they keep coming, I'll keep building.

I just enjoy building things and expressing my creativity, I also always loved Halloween. I remember as a kid being to afraid to go to the scary house, then I went. It was awesome, then we did a little haunted house at my friends house. We kept doing this until everyone grew out of it. They all said it was to kidish, they started going to parties instead. I never grew out of it, I kept going ToTing till I was 14. Then I met someone who had the same enthusiasm for halloween as i did. Started spending more and more time on costumes every year. Next year is my first "all-out" year decorating. I cant wait for next year, I just hope someone doesnt kill me by then for always having halloween on my mind.

Aside from the fact that I just LOVE Halloween (and I'm mostly doing it for the thrill of the night for myself) - it's also an amazing way to get people together who wouldn't normally associate with one another (read: NEIGHBORS). Everyone likes to come out and see what is new once you've started the tradition, and it definitely brings people together.
