1.) it seem that the bigger stores had little or no Halloween props. My local walmart had no props and just pitaful offering for Hallowen.
2.) lot of the houses in the neighborhood had their lights off.
3.) '2009' lack new props. it seemed to me it was just same stuff reharshed and redone.
4.) trunk & treat had a bigger following this year. (ok I'm going to tell my kid to go up to a stranger by his car and get candy, yea right. that's just wrong on several levels.)
Thread: Random observation on 2009.

I noticed alot more adults coming to our haunt, and trick or treaters never even showed up untill after 7.
Because the local news came to our place on the 30th, we had record numbers of victims, and can goods donated. So along with the awesome weather , we couldn t have asked for any more!Obsessed

On my street, there were also less lights on, don't know if it was the economy or what but it rather upset me., a lot of great costumes. One little girl made me laugh, she had a red and blue pretty dress on, princess-ish, I told her she looked pretty, and she in a very wise , matter of fact voice, said, very seriously, Yeah, I know. cracked me up, the look on her face . I enjoyed the night!

More houses decorated this year
about the same amout of TOTrs but they all came out much earlier. I think because it was Saturday, they were all dressed and in the driveway ready to go at dusk.
Way more homemade costumes maybe 85% were. All really creative including this one with arms holding her head above her body. It was awesome.
Way more polite
More adults dressed as well.
It was a good turnout for us.

Observations
#1: I spent too much money
#2: People really appreciate what we do. We may not get as many ToTs as we want due to where we live. Location, Location, Location really affects the number of ToTs..but the work we do does not go unnoticed. Folks in my hood that didn't hand out candy or decorate, still took the time to stop and check out the haunts
#3: The props I make get far more "props" than the props I buy.

Some observations from my place this year:
1. Like many, more home-made costumes.
2. Girls, moreso than boys, made costumes - most boys had store-bought costumes.
3. Lots of felines (cats, tigers, etc) for girls of all ages - lots of vampires for older boys, and super-hero's for young boys.
4. Perhaps it's a local thing, but there were a decent amount of teen age boys dressed in '70's or '80's "gym" outfits: white t-shirts, sweatbands on their heads, short gym shorts, over the calf tube socks and running shoes. A number of them wore mustaches as well, so I think I'm not "getting" the character they're trying to emulate.
4. Numbers of ToT'ers was up. Maybe as much as 50% more than last year (700-750 this year).
5. Almost everyone said thank you!!
6. More teens this year than previous years.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...
2009 photos and 2008 photos ...uhmmm...and what I have evolving...

I had like 6 boys dressed up like homeless with the signs that say spare change god bless and stuff like that. Lots to TOT not bothering to dress up at all. and 1 girl who wore a black dress with tons of glow bracelets all over it, that was easily the best costume I saw all night.
Life is too short to not do what makes us happy, keeps us sane, or both.
