My theme is always Texas Chainsaw and I dress up as Leatherface (chainsaw and all) and try to scare the heck out of anyone and everyone!
This year I had a friend over so we had 2 people to scare the kids (and adults).
I know some people just like to set up displays and have people look at them or walk through.
What do you do?

Mostly a large display with motion sensors...

Static Display in the yard and added a garage walkthru this year...didn't really make an effort to scare people...more or less let them walkthru and check out the props/ambiance. I just hung out in jeans and a hoodie talking to the ToTs and their parents.
Next year, we might expand to include the backyard, and if we do that, then we'll put more effort into actually trying to scare the ToTs

We used to do a static display - too many cords and lights for people to really walk through. Past 2 years, we've done a fully interactive walk-through haunt.

First year, so I only had a small display. The comments were very encouraging so maybe expand it some more next year. The design of our home/yard is going to cause some serious thinking about flow though.

What I have this year is a friends yard we hold hostage with actors. Next year I am going to do a more theatrical kinda show. I creating a character that I am going to play, and interact with the ToTs and parents. I will have foot switches mounted on a large box that I will jump around on to activate lights and props to tell a story of my friends in the grave yard. If they stick around through the props coming out at them they get a candy reward. I just want to enjoy giving out candy this year and not sit on my porch and ask kids to say Trick or Treat. I want them to want to by creating an experience with on actor alone. I want to be the best house in the neighborhood, from my inside source at the local elementary school they like the crazy man with the chainsaw. i want to here they got to meet "The Seeker" and his manor was awesome.

Displays and decorations, although next year I have an idea in my head for a forced "walk through" through static pumpkin and vine creatures. A little out of place in the desert but it'll look cool.
