Today, coming home from shopping with my mom, I was greeted by my new (almost 1 year) neighbors daughter. She handed my an envelope and said it is from her grandfather.
We got inside and opened it up. It is a handwritten letter. It started off with an apology for not knowing our names. He then went on to thank us for Saturdays display. He has a terminal illness and he must stay in bed with a breathing machine. He says it was a change from watching the squirrels and chipmunks from his window and he enjoyed watching everyone go through with smiles on their faces.
It made my Halloween SO many times better to get this letter. I was thinking of putting up walls this year but am so glad that I didn't.

Oh wow, how heartwarming! We don't always know the lives we touch with the things we do.

Awww that must have made you feel so good inside to know that you unexpectedly gave some pleasure and happiness to this gentleman lying there in his bed. You never know sometimes what you may do for others in the things you do for yourself. Touching story thanks for sharing.
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,Doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before

awww... this story is really touching. Thank you so much for sharing.
You should frame the note and put it up with the rest of your decor every Halloween.
And you should repost this next year when everyone is overwhelmed and wondering why they even spend all this time and money to decorate their yard.Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And lightness has a call that's hard to hear- E.A. Saliers
