The over 50km/hr winds in Ontario, Canada, blew everything around plus rain soaking all the props. Total mess and running around trying to find missing tombstone.. Seeing animated props knocked down and smashed in pieces. Shredded cornstalks and mums. I was just aweful taking up my time before guest arrived for the murder mystery which some were soooooo late coming.

I had to have a stiff drink just to calm my nerves or not do a full fledge balling fit know you worked so hard and long to await for the best halloween you've done.

Sorry to hear about your weather. It was supposed to thunderstorm here, but thankfully we only got hit with some spotty light showers, which really didn't affect it very much.

Oh Dear! You must have been crazy! I am sooo very sorry that the weather was such a bummer for you. If it's any help -- I feel your pain. WE too had high winds - - 30 mph gusts and many of our headstones ended up in the neighbors yard just a few minutes before our guests were scheduled to arrive on Friday night.

My hubby and I ran frantically around trying to prevent more destruction. Luckily - I can laugh at it all now. Kinda reminded me of an old Keystone Cops movie!
I didn't even have my costume on until 8:30 (our party started at 8! ) well after about 8 people had already arrived. They thought they got the start time wrong since I wasn't even dressed up yet! Eeek!

Somehow - it all managed to work out. The food was great (it was a Pot Yuck so others brought much of the food...) and by the time I managed to mix up the Witches Brew for the punch bowl - it was 10:00 and people had thought that the bowl filled with plastic eyeballs was just for decoration! LOL.

There was so much that went wrong - but in my heart I truly believe that nobody really noticed - or if they did - they didn't care and still had a great time. I know we finally did.

Hope you found the silver lining and hey -- now we all have 363 Days before we do it all again! My hubby says he is making headstones out of CONCRETE for next year! LOL hang in there. We are all in this together - if you don't count Mother Nature!
    BOO!

I feel your pain Tamster...those winds were brutal. Had to completely change my plans for outside things last-minute. I watched helplessly as the wind started to literally shred the circus awning I had over the garage door. The day before and day after were beautiful, but it figures it's always windy on Halloween...

Our tombstones never move, even in 90km/hr winds. A few years ago, we had them flopping over in the slightest breeze and someone on this forum told us how to secure them so that wind wouldn't hurt them again and it worked.

We have two stakes for each tombstone, painted to match the stone. We pound both stakes into the ground to sit behind each stone and then tie fishing line to one stake and wrap it around and around the tombstone going up and then back down the stone and then secure the line to the stake again. You can barely see the fishing line. They never move, no matter how the wind tries and they don't flop over from the weight of snow either. If you did it this way, would it help with wind maybe?
