Our yard haunt was a HUGGGGE success! We were so elated when it was all said and done. All the hard work had been worth it.
Last year we didn't have an elaborate display -- and had maybe 75-100 ToTers.
This year? Word got out about the display and we had at least 500 people come through!!! For rural S. GA., that is pretty amazing!!!! It was so cool to see families out ToTing -- like old times! I was tickled to see all the costumes, from the store bought, to the home made. And yes, we had a few families come through with *no* costumes on - and they were welcome as well.
We all seemed to have "defining moments" for us during the haunt. I expected this as usually when your heart is open to the experience of interacting with the general public, they will occur. We all stayed in character (unless a child became reallllllly afraid) throughout the haunt. One moment of mine happened as I was on the front porch checking on my Father (he's 78 years old, and a dementia patient) and one of my sisters (also dressed as a witch) said, "Sistah, someone is trying to speak to you, turn around." I turned around and there was a boy of about three years old. He was looking at me with stars in his eyes -- I was better than Santa Claus at that moment, for whatever reason. I said, in my witch accent, "Why hello there lil'Mistah! And Happy Halloween to you!" A little voice says, "Witch, I WUV U!" I respond, "You love... me??" He response, "YES, WITCH, I WUV U!" and opens up his little arms to give me a hug. That was A MOMENT indeed. There were others too - especially seeing my Dad having so much fun, smiling and laughing, and giving a zombie roar every once in awhile, hitting the button on the fog machine for us. He told us, "My face is stuck like this!" meaning the smiles/laughs.
It was a blessed evening! What fun!
Here are a few YouTube vids shot during our dress rehearsal Friday evening -- and then a slideshow of pics from both nights:
