Can't believe it. Since we purchase so much at Spirit, we werent in a hurry this morning to go to the 50% sale. We finally got to one in Tampa around 2:00. I was amazed that they still had a witch in the cauldren. When I took it up to the counter all of the employees were standing around and one said something about the store display of this witch was broken. I asked if the one I had was the store display. I was told no, that it was not the same one. I told him good, because I did not want it if it had been opened. He assured me that it was new.
Well when I got it home and open the box, there was no packing around it. There was just the little black tabs that hook it to the cardboard. It was the store display and it did not work. Thrown into the box was an adapter that wasnt even the correct one and some sort of timer thing.
I know that the store receipts say no refund, but I was wondering if anyone has taken an item back if it was broken in the box.
I am calling the corp office in the morning. I am upset of course that it doesnt work at all, but I am furious that the employees lied to me.

That really sticks. Sorry to hear that. Try and get a refund, but I think you'll have trouble. There were signs all over the Spirit I went to about absolutely no refunds/exchanges for the closeout sale. I saw a prop that I really wanted but it didn't look good- the box was suspicious. Definitely opened. Had to leave it behind. I hope you fair well. Fingers crossed.

I really hope you will be able to get a refund.
However if you don't get a refund, post this on the prop section. Someone may know how to fix it. And don't worry about the adaptor, you can usually find adaptors in stores or online.
Also, Spirit's props usually look good even if they don't work. So you can always sell them on Craiglist or Ebay and get back what you paid for it. But don't forget to disclose that it isn't working in the description.

If you can't get a refund, let us know. I'd let the corporate office know that the biggest halloween forum will know about it and potentially 1000's of customers won't be shopping there next year. I think it's ridiculous that you heard them talking about it, asked and they lied, then you get home and it is the one. Honestly tho, I would have tried it there first. That's too much money even at 50% off.
Wonder if they still got fog machines left. I could use a few of them cheap ones for quick fog bursts for props.

i have the witch in cauldron , and worked great everytime this year , one of my favorite good looking prop for this year .......and belive me even new spirit props dont come packaged like the gemmy do ok , plastic bags over head and thats it no crating , and at least you got the adaptor with it because IT DOESNT COME WITH AN ADAPTOR , i had to pay 29$ to buy one at circuit city .....

Thank you for the responses.
I called Spirit Corp this morning. I'm not to sure about that place. The lady who answered did not pick up with "Good morning Spirit Halloween". She just said "Hello" When I asked if it was Spirit Halloween, she said " well who are you calling" I said Spirit Halloween, she replied " online or store"
Well if does turn out to be Spirit corp, she said I should get a call back sometime today from the district manager.
I also called the company that sells it. It seems to be a very nice place. They told me that they are a small company and would be happy to help me with her next August when they get their shippment in for next year. lol
If the box had been damaged, I would not have purchased without seeing it work. The box does have tape on it, but quite a few items I purchased this year had tape on it. We were told by a store employee earlier that they were having a problem with the boxes popping open this year.

To be fair the day or two after Halloween is probably a pretty hectic time for the company. I would try to make contact with a specific person and tell them him/her you have a problem but ask them to call you back in a few days or a couple of weeks when things settle down. Follow up if they don't.
Everything is sold as is, but if the employees tell you it's in unused condition and that's not the case that is different. Depending on your state laws that may imply a warranty.

what I do at walmart but remember I hate walmart if they refuse to take back somthing that they really should like in your case I take the lose and throw it at them

Mike called around and found a store in Orlando that still had their store display. They were very nice. The store manager called his district manager ,who called us and told us they would trade. We still havent heard from the Tampa district manger.
She is used, but at least she works very well.
If anyone lives in the Orlando area by Colonial Drive. This is by far the best Spirit location that we have been to this year, and it was Nov.1st. The manager was a great guy, even carried the witch to my car for me. You could tell that he loved his job. They had a couple of Spirit park benches setting around the store, that one of the employees had made for the store. They were very cool. I would have purchased one but I couldnt fit it into my car.
