I had a chance to talk to several folks today and all of them commented on the low numbers of TOTs this year. Where as last year there was a steady stream of kids for the whole two hours, this year there were large gaps and lulls in the activity. A fireman friend said they routinely go out in their rigs and drive around handing out candy. They were at a subdivision and hardly saw anyone out at 7:15 p.m! There were some large groups but sporadic. Almost everyone I talked to said they had half the number of kids they h last year. Not really sure of the reason other than it being a Saturday and parents having parties and other things to do, or the weather although it ws just a bit chilly and windy but no rain.
We noticed less older teens and more younger kids, also less adults with TOT bags.

we weren't too far off from last year, but still off. My house is right near a crossroads in the plan, and there were times where it looked like there wasn't anyone around. We seemed to get hit early, have a huge dead spot, and then it picked up again towards the end. We had crappy weather all day, but then the night turned out ok. It was a little breezy, but at least the rain stopped well before trick or treating.

I seemed to have a lot more younger kids this time. At least there were no annoying teens.

I was down pretty big from last year and I have no clue why. My house is right next to 3 bus stops so kids knew what was going on at my house. I'm not sure if it was the heat, their parents going to parties, or trunk or treats hitting into the neighborhood traffic.

We had the best turnout in the last five years, around 50-60 TOT's.
Numbers had been dwindling, partially due to negative publicity of the holiday, partially due to the town setting curfews. We expected even less due to weather, but an hour before trick-or-treating was 'scheduled' to begin, the rain stopped, the wind died down, the sun came out and so did the TOT's!---------------
Never criticize someone until you have walked a mile in their shoes. That way, when you DO criticize them, you are a mile away, and you have their shoes...

Well hopefully more trick or treaters will turn out over the next few years..I hope so at least, I'll be residing in much bigger home so I'll have higher expectations and a bigger haunt to conduct..
