After the haunt last night, some drunken morons started pitching ice balls at our decorations and damaged one of them heavily. Sigh.
So is this what happens when Halloween is on a weekend? Has anyone else had this happen to them, or maybe had stones pitched at their decorations, shopping carts, etc?
Sigh. It's always something...![]()

I have had pretty good luck... someone did steal one of my Christmas inflatables though.
I would have called the police if some idiots damaged my stuff...

I'm so sorry that happened.

We've been lucky so far - nothing damaged and never had even a pumpkin smashed. We do take in almost everything at the end of the night and just leave stuff that wouldn't be entertaining to mess with.I'm a Halloween Bride! 10/31/2002

It would be interesting to have a prop that throws snowballs back!!!

Never had anyone mess with the decorations, but we always get those few kids that like to throw candy at the monsters (family and friends who participate)
Over all we get pretty good groups that come through. Sorry to hear about your misfortune though...always a shame to loose good props to idiots
No one can hear you scream . . . in the night . . . in the dark.

I'm about to conclude that the best plan is to keep all the decor behind a privacy fence or inside a garage, and just have the TOTs come into the area the night of Halloween — perhaps guided by some spooky "Berma Shave" signs leading the way. You can have a lightning machine and some sound effects that can be noticed from afar, but put nothing within any stranger's reach.
Yes, it stinks, and probably 85% of the kids coming by your home are good eggs, but it's the other 15% that have no respect for other people's property. You're playing a crap shoot any time you put anything, Halloween or otherwise, out in your yard.
It is a different age today. Why kids are becoming more and more rotten is a subject all to itself. I wish I could turn back time and try again. (You could start by bringing back paddles to the principal's office. Just the threat of a spanking worked for so many generations.)

So far the weather has been my only real vandal. I did have a neighborhood delinquent a few years back, but he and his friends seem to have grown up a bit.
Sorry to hear about the idiots you have to deal with.

Oh wow, that sucks so much. I'm really sorry that happened and I hope it doesn't deter you from decorating next year. We took everything down last night. Everyone involved in the haunt pitched in and it was down in no time. On the other hand, we've spent all day packing everything for storage and we're still not finshed.

Thanks everyone for your consoling words and pearls of wisdom. This is our 10th year and the first time this has ever happened to us. The GOOD NEWS is that we assessed the damages as we put things away and most of it can be fixed.
Normally, this type of damage is not very likely for us (since it normally doesn't snow THAT MUCH before Halloween) but I guess we were just unlucky this year.
