So, the streets are littered with pumpkin flesh, and the house is filled with the remnants of Halloween. This is the time to chew some leftover candy, take advantage of post-Halloween sales and consider the plan for next year.
But what then?
Well, on Halloween night at 2:00 am when the time changed, the "Sounds of the Seasons" channel on Cable went from a Halloween song to a christmas carol, one right after the other. The country is now plunged into the biggest festival of the year, with crafts and decorations being prepared until Thanksgiving, followed by the madness of Black Friday. Soon comes the crush of Christmas parties, dinners, television specials and concerts, all culminating in a morning of wrapping paper and heavy food.
I offer Larry's Christmasfanclub.com, a forum just like this one, run by the same fellow, where lighting, decor, crafts and recipes abound. It's a neat place to get your Yule on, filled with many of your fellow ghouls from here.
As winter grinds on, make next year's props.
Prop making often needs outside space, good ventilation, and intense detail work. Doing this in July and August can be torture, with sweat in your eyes, heat on your neck and bugs everywhere. Do the most prop-making in deep winter, and save indoor crafts for summer.
Keep an eye on this site. There's a dedicated and well-versed group of ghouls that call the Halloween Forum home year round, and some of the best information can be easily spotted in the slower months. You miss a lot on this forum in the last weeks of October, so make sure you leave a tetherline back to good ol' Halloween Forum. It's a neat place to visit all year.
So let the world celebrate light in the darkness and greenery in winter, life in the season of death and revelry in the dreary months. Let them have their joys and sentiment. Allow them this passing happiness.
After all, the poor fools have no idea what awaits them the next time October dies.

Thank you - and I forgot to mention one thing for us Americans...
Carve or sculpt some pumpkins for Thanksgiving.
There's no reason to put those carving tools away when a pumpkin filled with soup or punch, or just a lit centerpiece, can make a Thanksgiving table pop.
Do some elegant stuff, like leaves, acorns or swirling lines like a brisk north wind. Carve circles and diamonds, floral designs and vines. Score holes in the rind and push glass marbles in to 'jewel' the pumpkin and add some sparkle.
Look into pumpkin decorating, and put those haunting skills to use for the 'other' Harvest festival.

Great suggestions Spats....
...except for the "outdoor winter prop building" part. I don't see your location listed, but I'm guessing it's not Minnesota!
