I SO ENJOYED THAT VIDEO!!! Thanks for posting. I only wish the video went on longer with other groups of visitors. Loved your doctor make up and dialog. Wonderful idea for a haunt maze and some effective scares there. So how many hospital workers did you have working halloween night? Loved it, loved it, loved it.... I'm hitting replay and going through again....

Stacy just saw a post you made under last minute purchases before halloween where you mentioned that you were picking up live crickets for your coffin box. OMG no wonder the girls screamed so loud when they got to the clear skeleton box with bugs in it! I hadn't realized they were real bugs until reading your shopping list!!! Too funny. BTW where on earth did you go to buy live crickets?

We didn't have that many actors - the hand-stamp woman, the woman at the reception desk, one behind the scenes to work the doll, the "abductor/butcher" and "abductee," the girl in the demon drop, the chainsaw guy, and 2 "sweepers" who followed behind each group to make sure no one backtracked or touched props. We were floored with how many people wanted to help out - my husband and I put this thing together, and then sent out a call through our HOA for volunteers once we had the haunt built out. We gave them a general gist of what was going on and let them run with it - they did FANTASTIC. We had twice that many people come up to us during the haunt wanting to help next year! Which means we need to add a few scenes.....we'll do zombies feasting in the lab next year....we're also planning on having all the bodies hanging in the body bags shake, the morgue drawers pop open, and the chainsaw arc on the wall, throwing sparks....too much fun.
Ghost - that was our biggest bomb! We had 60 live crickets in there (you can get them at almost any pet store - they're snake and lizard food!). Within 10 mins of putting those crickets in there, almost all of them ran UNDER the bucky to hide. I was so ticked off! There were maybe 10 that were crawling on the screens (the rest were fake spiders). Sometimes your props don't cooperate with you! Oh well, $7 down the drain. We'll figure out a new scene for that space next year.

The haunt space is a dream space, let me tell you. It's an old barn, high pitched ceilings (about 20' tall), it's about 25' deep and 50' across.

The barn is a remnant from the ranch that used to be here previously - the land was purchased and divided up into acreage lots for a subdivision (from 1-10 acres each). The POA had never used it for anything, it was just at the bottom of the hill in the subdivision park. The year before we moved in, they started a haunted house out of it for their annual Fall Festival. The kids go TOTing along the paths in the park, which all lead down the hill to the barn. The guy who started the haunt had no time for it, so my husband and I took over. It was pure luck - I just happened to run into the Fall Festival chairwoman on a morning walk, she mentioned the haunted house, we offered to donate our (300 or so!) props, which we couldn't use at our new place since it was so isolated. They saw what we had and asked us to take over. Totally fate!
The barn is about a 3 minute drive from our house, we are one of 3 people with keys to it so we can work on it anytime we want, and we can store ALL of our props there. It's totally weatherproof and there's a security guard in the area. Most days I think someone will pinch me and I'll wake up, after 10 years of dragging tons of props into and out of our old tiny garage, too full of Halloween stuff to even park our cars, I could not have picked a better place for a haunt. So we'll enjoy it while we have it!
