Hey, all. Okay, I know it's still 364.25 days until next Halloween but I did notice one thing about my setup tonight. It needed colored spotlights to really make things stand out. Can I ask where people get their spotlights and colored bulbs?
Thank you!

I use a "socket on a stick". (a socket, 6 foot cord, and either a ground steak, or screw type plate.) simple as that. you can find the at the big three, (Menards, Lowes, Home Depot). in the electrical department. Around $3.50 to $4.50 each. they also have the spot light bulbs that i use. There are one or two that i will put on a dimmer to give it a better effect.
Its the most HORRIBLE time of the year.
, I apoligize in advance for any misspelled words.

As much as I prefer Home Depot over Lowes for most things, I will say the quality of the colored spotlights at Lowes is higher.
The coating is thicker, and lasts longer. Your colors are more vibrant.
But, if you're really looking for rich colors on your spots, try LED spotlights.
In fact, I believe Minions Web has received some decent reviews from folks on this forum on their LED spotlights.Hell is an eternity of getting up at 4am to nothing but decaf coffee...

I use the cheap plastic flood holders from Home Depot. They have them in the christmas stuff.
I like them better than the slightly more expensive gray painted metal ones. Those broke fast (the spike snapped in half) and have grounded plugs, which are terrible, as you need different extension cords or grouding adapters.
I use three store color bulbs and one custom bulb. Red green and blue (cheap and expensive, the expensive ones are thick glass/coloring and don't throw as much light) and a custom orange one (glass paint from michaels, ordering online comes to $25 a bulb!).
Lighting really makes the atmosphere of your haunt much better. I used 13 bulbs this year. I also used 3 power sources this year, and will be adding another next year.

Big Lots has cheap colored spot bulbs. But I like using colored GELS. That way, I can buy the cheaper no-color bulbs and have ANY color ANYWHERE... and change that color in seconds without having to change the bulb. Plus, I don't have to store a zillion bulbs to have different colors available.

Thanks so much!!! We do have a Lowe's. I didn't realize they'd be out for Christmas too. This is ideal--I can give my wallet a break for a couple of weeks, then go H'ween shopping. (I tend to do my shopping stretched out over the year.)

I also picked up the flood light holders on stakes at Home Depot and they worked great. One piece of advice - do not look in the lighting department for these because they're not there. Took us a while to figure it out, the associate we asked in lighting didn't even know, but they're over in with the seasonal Christmas stuff right now.

Better yet, they WILL go on clearance post-Christmas! One word of caution tho - make sure your ground can handle it. The area we moved into is solid rock and they need a good 4" of soil or so to really be stable. Also, the floods get SUPER hot and will burn you, so make sure they're out of the way of folks walking by.
