I spent the better part of the day searching madly for one of my five cats. He dissapeared not long after I started opening the door for trick or treaters. I searched the house repeatedly, looking everywhere I thought he could conceivably be, calling out to him and offering treats. All of the other cats were within my sight, but it was like he had vanished. I eventually was left with no other conclusion than that he had somehow slipped out the door without me noticing. I searched for him outside, calling and calling. I drove around and looked for him repeatedly. I came back, checked the house again, went back outside... I made up signs and then drove to an office store and had them lamenated. I walked around the neighborhood putting up signs, telling random people that my cat was missing.
And for hours, there was no sign of him anywhere. I was highly stressed out and couldn't enjoy anything. Finally when I had come home from putting up the signs, I for some reason went back out and lit the jack o lantern I had on the porch.
As soon as I came back inside from lighting the jack o'lantern, there he was, right in front of me in the hallway.
WHAT THE BLOODY HELL. I'm just so grateful he's back to me. He seemed a bit spooked, too.

That's definetly not the kind of trick you want on Halloween. So glad he turned up!

Maybe he has secretly been working on a costume as like a lamp or something. Either that or you almost caught him emerging from that secret tunnel entrance he has been working on.

Clearly some cats have the ability to make themselves invisible. I am certain of this as I have hunted high and low for mine before and had him waltz in as though he had never been missing. Mine is pretty old, we have had him 10 years and he was not a kitten when he came to us.

Thanks for the nice words, everybody. Here's a pic of him with his sister, that I took a little while ago. The one that got abducted into another plane is the black one.
It didn't really wreck Halloween; I'm just happy I have him back.*
