if I'm in a dark building and theres a fire, I would like the exit sign to be lit up so I can get out.....

Good luck! I've dreamed of doing this exact thing. Good to know what I'll need to be aware of when I eventually get to that stage. Safety first!

If you want to get all you would need in a one or two day seminar for what they require find a Life Safety Code. They will cover emergency egress, occupancy, etc... that should satisfy the inspectors. And you will get a nifty certificate you can wave in their faces.

The one I attended was at one of our local tech schools. You could start by asking at one near you. Or simply do a search for it, and also National Seminars Group offers tons of siminars you can browse through and they may offer one in your area.
