Just heard it on my local news-WTH??? Parents are keeping their kids in because they don't want them catching H1N1-their already exposed to it at school, church, grocery stores, etc....I have a home daycare and we've had it here, but it's not stopping me from taking my grand kids trick or treating!!! I don't know-Halloween is just not the same - sad.

The News over exaggerates things. Im sure theres some family's that will stay in because of it but ultimately im sure you'll see just as many as the years previous.

Media hype. It doesn't even make sense. As you said, they don't keep them home from school because of the flu scare. They're a lot more likely to catch it there than anywhere else.

Yeah same thing going on here. I also read an article on the net about getting H1N1 from trying on Halloween masks at the store. Remember that a few years ago when there was a rumor about planned terrorist attacks on shopping malls at Halloween? And of course the classic urban legends about poisoned candy, and glass and razor blades in the apples. I think the mass media has a way of sucking the fun out of anything.

It's hype, and sensible people know it.
Usually it sounds like this.
"Trick-or-treat is right around the corner, but should you take your children out this Halloween? News about H1N1/apples/candy/masks/residents in your neighborhood/dangers of public places/road conditions/sidewalks/weather/fallen branches/carved pumpkins/lawns/porches/the effects of the moon that you as a parent need to know; tonight at ten!"

I would think there would be more danger from the fall carnivals they are having to replace ToT.
