Well, I went outside this morning and found that all but 2 of my tombstones are gone. At first we thought it was possible that the wind might have taken them, but after searching around the house and down the street we determined that they were stolen. 3 home made tombstones with many hours invested, along with one that I made when I was a little boy over 10 years ago.
Luckily, I still have about half or so tombstones that I had not put out yet.
But my question is this: Have any of you had success driving around the neighborhood the night before or day of Halloween? Since mine are so distinct, and there is pretty much no one else in my neighborhood that has custom tombstones, I think they may be pretty easy to spot.
EDIT: here's some pictures:
The first two are pictures before they were finished, but that is what they look like just painted.

Do you really think any of your neighbors would be so bold as to steal your tombstones and then display them in their front yards? Surely not. I'd bet they were taken as a prank with no intention of using them as decor.

I do think there's a good shot it was a prank, but people are stupid and I'd bet whoever stole them would display them not realizing they were handmade.

Lost one last year. Never found it. This year, slingshot and marbles for the little punks who try to steal them.

Never underestimate the stupidity of criminals, espeically thieves.
A few months ago a woman's house was burglarized, and the next day she saw her neighbors selling her stuff at a yardsale.
And when my husband's car was broken into, the actual thief tried to sell him back his speakers not realizing that they were custom made and my husband had the serial numbers.Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable

I am pretty confident they weren't stolen as a prank. I live in a quiet suburban part of San Jose, Ca. Unfortunately theft seems to be a problem in this quiet suburban neighborhood [surprisingly at least as much of a problem if not more than when I lived downtown].
In the 1.75 years I have lived here I have had car audio equipment stolen out of the garage on 2 separate occasions, my roommate's car was broken into in the driveway, and there are one or two other occasions that I cannot think of at the moment.
I'm kind of hoping that they would be dumb enough to display them. I think I'll drive around the area Saturday afternoon.
I wish they were just store bought ones, who cares about those.... these were personally made works of art by my best friend and her boyfriend [who is an artist] and my girlfriends mother. Damn thieving bastards.

I doubt you find them but good look anyways. I've had stuff stolen in the past. It really makes me angry to think about it. Some punk stole 2 of my skulls this year alone!!!! It takes a real low life to steal Halloween decorations. The thoughtlessness of some people.

I'd take a look around the quad areas of the local high schools. Got any pictures of them? I'll keep my eyes open.

They could also store them til next year, thinking you'll forget about them.

Check eBay and Craigslist too.. It is a shot in the dark but I have heard of some success. We had a ring of Christmas thieves stealing those inflatable decorations. They caught up to a bunch of college kids who's plan was to put them in storage to sell on eBay for the next season.
