Ok.. this is now the 4th year in a row that I've tried to set up decorations anywhere from the day of (couple years ago) to a week or so before, and the damn weather ALWAYS screws me over! This year I spent money on a hot glue gun, $40 in glue sticks, got all my webs up yesterday, (well most), and today, out of nowhere, heavy winds are ripping my stuff apart. OMFG! I am so darn pissed now. Worse, it's now supposed to rain on halloween. I really really love decorating, but halloween is just at the wrong time of year. Fall is horrible for outside decorations.. at least anything that is light weight and can't withstand any sort of wind. I bought PVC tubes to glue/stick to my tombstones and make PVC stands that I'll bolt into the ground (er.. 4" long screws that I'll put in and attach wire to over the top of the PVC stands to hold them to the ground). I already lost two tombstones to heavy wind two weeks ago, put all our decorations away, yesterday I go out to put them up, and dang it the wind today! UGH! I am really PO'd with this. I am hoping they'll weather the wind.. they are still there, although the realistic look of it is fading as they are starting to clump together with the wind blowing all of it into each other!

So anyone else having weather issues blowing your stuff away or wreaking havoc on your display?

I honestly don't know if I am going to continue to spend the time each year. I would like to start doing some animated props next year!

I am so sorry all of your hard work got ruined.

My only suggestion is that the webshooter stuff be used up under the porch area, or any other protected area. Or wait to do it the day before and keep your fingers crossed.

I do feel your pain, tho. Last year, my mausoleum roof got ripped off and broken into several pieces. I collected them, glued them back together and put it back on.

This year, waited until a week and a half out - put up the mausoleum and came home yesterday after a bad storm front moved through to not only the roof ripped off and broken into MANY more pieces, but the entire framework twisted up. My square crypt was a parallelogram and screws and wood split all over. I couldn't even find all the pieces this year.

I drug the roof and pieces into our garage, reset the frame as best as I could and may try to fix this Friday when I'm off work.

It is depressing, but I figure next year if I do decorate, I may re-build my mausoleum out of heavy plywood and bolt that sucker together... so it won't be moving in a $#@! rainstorm.

Yeah, it's blowing pretty good here in Newark, CA, but it's supposed to die out by tomorrow night. I've been checking the weather forecasts for the past couple of weeks - the latest news is no rain but maybe some breezes. For Fremont, CA, Accuweather.com sez:

AccuWeather.com - Fremont 5 Day Weather Forecast: CA

The local news last night agreed, as does The Weather Channel forecast. We'll see...

    Goonies never say die!!!

Take a deep breath and think on what you can do to fix what you can now. Then start to think on how it could have been different for next year? Plan and account for the winds and weather best you can before you start ALWAYS keeping in mind how to reinforce everything, or plan on the layout where the fragile and light things may be placed strategically for house structures, shrubs, trees, etc. to block and/or shelter them.

    There is always a way.

Looks like I am not going to be out of the wind until Friday unless they change it again. Still tripping over tombstones in the living room here.

The wind has kicked up down here as forecast. It's not too bad right now but it got up to 18 miles per hour at my house earlier. I just hope my Hallowindow screen (installed last night) and plastic sheeting over the garage holds out. The winds are worse in the back of the house so it should be okay. There is a small chance of rain today too. That would be a hassle.

I can't complain too much... we don't get much weather down here so most years are okay with a few annoyances.

30+mph winds here today, supposed to die down tomorrow, forecast had been for rain on Saturday but now we're down to 10% chance.

Bah! I spoke too soon. The winds were supposed to be less today and they were actually significantly stronger. Oh to be a weather forecaster. I'd love to be paid to be wrong all the time. 28 mile per hour winds at my house. A ton of stuff was knocked over and some busts were broken. The ghosts my wife made stripped off their frames and my Hallowindow screen on the garage is torn. Argh!

We hardly ever get winds like this from the west. Santa Ana winds from the east are no surprise (and my house is mostly shielded from those) but major winds off the ocean are very unusual (and damaging since there is nothing to block them).

I'm just going to leave everything lying around until they finally stop (which is forecasted for tomorrow afternoon... not that you can believe that).

    Annoyed.

i totally understand your frustration. We had walls fall down last night due to the wind gusts. DH was thinking of trying again today but just when you thought it was clear they'd pick up again. so I think he's waiting till Fri. Good luck to everyone with this challenge right now.

Yah.. still had some winds going today, and was cold! In the 40s today! At least rain is no longer forcasted for saturday. I gotta try out my borrowed fog machine and the ABS 5' pipe and 12' of drain pipe tomorrow. I'll put in a couple lbs of ice from my freezer, thats it.
